well we have different opinions xD My view on Edward is that he's a pansy and any real vampire can kick his ass lol. And bella...just...no XD Mary sue alert. But that's only my opinion. If you like it, no problem <3 I have friends who like it and they aren't completely insane about it XD But I wouldn't mind watching that 'vampires suck' parody XD
I don't like it. I hate it, but I find the insipid arguments people create against it have nothing to do with the true problems of the book. They're simply criticisms on a personal and superficial level. Vampires don't exist. There is no such thing as a 'real' vampire. SMeyer is free to concoct whatever vision of a vampire she pleases and that's hardly something to chastise her about.
Criticize the book for its writing. She writes and writes and writes and never actually says anything. She floods the book with needless adjectives she most likely doesn't even understand herself and clogs every installment with nothing but pointless pages of purple prose.
Criticize the book for its messages. For its misogynistic undertones. This book is incredibly degrading to women and character of Edward is an embodiment of male chauvinism. It sends disgusting messages to young women about the superiority of men and teaches them that they are not a worthy member of society until they are wed and care for a man and produce children. Edward is glorified by Bella, by the writing itself, and Jacob is shunned and cast aside when he was truly the better man.
Sparkling vampires may be laughable but when weighed against the negative messages in this book they are insignificant.

The sparkling vampire hate is so stupid. I actually thought it was a rather interesting spin on the vampire creature. Actually, the basic plot of the book could have been developed into a really excellent story had SMeyer not been writing it. She's just a terrible writer and awful at character development. But the premise of a vampire falling in love with girl whose blood smells good to him and having to fight his insatiable need to feed on her in order to be with her - that's interesting. In the hands of a capable author it could have been sensational.
