Backstory Time!

The Second Cold war began in 2042 with the establishment of the New World Orders (NWOs) The United States, Canada, Mexico, and The United Kingdom formed The American Alliance. The countries of the European Union all consolidated into a single unified government. Russia and China signed a formal alliance along with North Korea and several former Soviet Bloc countries to form The Russo-China Pact. Japan along with India, Australia, New Zealand, South Korea, and South Africa formed the Pacific Union.

A great deal was devoted to the build-up of weaponry but, much like the first cold war, gave birth to great advancements in space travel. In 2051 the RCP launched the first successful manned mission to Mars. The other powers saw this and were quick to begin planning for Mars mission of their own. Over the next ten years numerous missions from each of the four powers landed on the red planet until there were enough people and resources to form permanent colonies.'

The AA founded Lenape, named for a Native American tribe. The EU founded Krieger Colony, named for a prominent EU Scientist. From the RCP came New Gorizont, (gorizont - горизонт means horizon in Russian). Built along the banks of what must have been a great river in Mars' distant past, The colony of Akai Kawa (Red River) was the PU's contribution to the colonization of Mars.

In 2075 the colonies officially became self-sustaining. The large atmosphere processors had made the Martian air breathable. Decades of tilling and fertilizing the Martian soil had finally begun to produce results, as farms across the red planet bloomed with life. Two massive drilling and pumping stations had been completed on the Martian poles and the people finally had a nigh limitless supply of fresh water.

Far from the conflicts of Earth the four colonies worked together, shared resources and technology. They built a great highway system to connect them, and smaller settlements began to crop up around these highways as rest stops for weary travelers. Mars was undergoing a great renaissance becoming a great bastion of peace and prosperity. Earth however, was about to experience devastation the likes of which humanity had never seen.

We still don't know who fired the first shot or when, but the truth of World War 3 was far beyond the reach of any creative mind. This brutal conflict left little of the Earth unscarred. There may not have been a full-on nuclear holocaust like some predicted, but many areas of the planet are still dangerously radioactive to this day thanks to the use of such weapons.

The AA was the first to fall, all of the powers had grossly over-the-top military budgets, but the AA's was especially egregious. The RCP and the EU fell shortly after; famine and lack of clean water had doomed these powers years before their fall. The Pacific Union managed to hold on for a few more years than the rest, but ultimately became a failed state as well. Between the start of the war in 2086 and the "official end" in 2105 it is estimated over 3 billion people, a third of the Earth's population at the time, were killed in the conflict.

All communication with Earth ceased. After five years of radio silence Mars sent a small convey to Earth to investigate. Their last transmission indicated they had begun landing procedures - they were never heard from again. Mars continued to prosper and 45 years passed with not a peep from Earth. Until in 2151, the centennial of the first Mars mission, Earth returned...

In its "50 years of silence" What remained of Earth and its population had consolidated into a fascist military dictatorship calling itself EarthGOV. All earthlings were soldiers, they were no longer people, but the property of the state. The people had no choice; serve the state or die. Earth had "unified" but decades of war and climate change had left most of the planet uninhabitable. There wasn't enough food, there wasn't enough water, and there wasn't enough land, humanity on Earth was still dying. And thus EarthGOV set its sights on Mars.

During the 50 years the military scientists of EarthGOV designed what would come to be known as the Ion Drive - a propulsion method that cut the journey from Earth to Mars down to a single month. EarthGOV built fleets of drop-ships and equipped them with this ion drive. June 28 is now known as Reclamation Day on Earth, as on that day in 2151 EarthGOV set its invasion fleet Mars-Bound.

The Martian people were caught totally by surprise. They were not soldiers, they were scientists, engineers, artists, and farmers. They had no need for weapons of war. The brutality of the EarthGOV soldiers was incredibly foreign to the Martians, especially those born during the 50 Years of Silence. The colonies were swiftly occupied and declared the property of EarthGOV. Farms were raided and their crops shipped back to Earth with no compensation for the farmers. The Water Facilities were occupied and Martian water was being bottled up and sent to quench Earthling's palates. Progress on Mars ground to a halt, over the next 20 years it became little more than life-support for the people of Earth.

Small rebellions cropped up during those 20 years but none saw any meaningful success. EarthGOV was brutal in stomping out all forms of resistance. But then, in 2176 things began to change. EarthGOV had developed what it called "Terror Bots" 4 meter tall walking battle tanks that patrolled the streets of every city. The Mars Liberation Front (MLF) often mocked at the time for its name being very similar to the word "MILF" was no more notable than any of the other freedom fighter groups. Then, she came along.

Anakashka Osaka, better known as Jessie, A young hybrid girl from Akai Kawa lead the MLF to its and Mars' first victory against EarthGOV. Through sheer will she lead a brazen attack on EarthGOV's main command facility in Akai Kawa and managed to take control of the colonies Terror bots turning them against the EarthGOV soldiers. EarthGOV has tried many times since to retake the city, but the Terror Bots combined with a newly determined, and growing, MLF and the people of Akai Kawa they were driven back every time.

Jessie Osaka has become something of a folk hero, the poster child for the MLF and a free Mars. People began flock to the MLF from all over Mars wanting a chance to fight alongside Jessie O. and free their planet from EarthGOV's oppression. Akai Kawa may be free, But Lenape New Gorizont, Krieger and the settlements are still occupied, their people's rights still trampled. Make no mistake; we will free our home, we will stand Behind Jessie Osaka and the MLF until every last green-back has been driven from our soil!
