S-T.A.R Modular Heavy Assault Rifle
The Shift-Tech Arms Rifle is the main weapon of the entirety of the GAC military. It is designed for one purpose and one purpose only, to kill extremophile species.
Chambered in 340. "Hassle", the rifle's signature feature is it's reloadable forged carbon cartridges. Its been a feature of the rifle since its widely popular predecessors entered service. While antiquated, this feature has proven the easiest way to use such a large round. Caseless ammunition mechanisms could not handle the force of a 340. rounds being fired in quick succession, as the vibration caused the complex mechanism to prematurely chamber a round or just break, causing jams or damage.
The rifle is a hybrid of a standard projectile-based rifle, and a railgun. The forward assembly of the rifle can slide forward to activate a magnetic accelerator to accelerate the steel projectiles to Mach-3. The military-use SABOT rounds can easily punch a hole in light tanks with that amount of power. But the rifle can also be used as a standard projectile weapon by folding in the forward assembly, for instances the rifle cannot be used with the electric accelerator rails.
The only drawback is the vintage 20 round magazines it is limited to. No extended magazines exist for this rifle due to its full auto capability. Firing 340. in full auto would cause so much vibration that rounds would not feed correctly.
However, these rifles make up for that with the fact that they are modular. There are a plethora of interchangeable parts from Shift-Tech and 3rd party companies that can be easily attached or detached by a set of clips, like the one you see on the side of the forward accelerator rail. This feature makes all interchangeable parts zeroed in right out of the box.
Feel free to mix and match to your hearts content. Part of owning an S-TAR rifle is customizing it.
one of these days I'll draw all the parts for it...
