-UTO - Back to Basics - part 2 The morning after
Eric had only slept for about six hours due to those ugly nightmares. Morning was hell upon him.
The bugle played, a sound everyone form bootcamp fears and hates. A another hellish day had arrived to for them. He had the unfoturnate change of bolting straight up in his bunk.
See, Eric slept on the lower bed hitting the steel bars with the top of his skull feeling the horrific headache and pain throbing. His brain set to auto pliot as he sent his feet forward toward a footlocker. Someone groaned from the bunk above him making Eric jump but still opened the locker grab the new uniform. It was blue with some tiger like striping pattern in different shade of more blue.
Then not so gracfully came this bunkmate fell onto the rubber matted floor. 'Thud!' and a curse was mubled in pain. This guy reeked of alchol only dressed in boxer and a yellowed tanktop. Eric kept on rushing to dress. then the drill sargent came in yelling his own insanity.
"ALL OF YOU GET DRESSED NOW OR GOD SO HELP YOU SLIMLY BASTARDS! MOVE! MOVE MOVE!" He screamed it out already looking down each row of bunks scrambling to get ready. Each soldier was somewhat trying given how they over enjoyed showers and warm bed but that one likely drunk guy just slowly took his time. The drill sargent's eyes narrowed towards Eric's bunk. Eric proceed to think two words, 'Oh fuck' repeated fearing for his own life.
The sargent stepped loudly pounding his boots as the drunk tried to button up his shirt then deciding to leave it out then grabbing a pair of sunglasses. Eric couldn't help but think back to how one paticlar friend had a simlar pair.
"PRIVATE CANON! WHY ARE YOU A DRUNK MESS?!" The drill sargent shout his question at the guy now know as Canon or as Eric knew him, James 'Jackson' Canon. This drunk was what had become of his great old friend from high school.
Jackson stared him down of all things. "Because I just wanted to drill sargent, Because I needed one HELL of a night to relax after all this SHIT I've DONE and SEEN SIR!" He exlomated his choice words likely mocking the drill sargent. Jackson then grabbed a sliver liquor containor stuffing it into a breast pocket.
"Promission to get coffee to soder up Sir!" Jackson did a salute still clunky from being hungover. The sargent huffed angry and fuming. Jackson was very lucky to be alive.
"CANON! You shall go to the toliets and freshen up or god so help you if you single handedly make a fool of the whole human race!" The sargent seemed to still be mad but somehow understanding. Then Eric smelled it, booze on the drill sargent's breath. It was crazy faint but from how close the sargent was to him he smelt it. Seemed more enjoyed the supplied party last night. The sargent snapped looking over everyone as this dead quietness took over, It scared every private even causing a few higher ranked to stir uncomfortably standing.
"ALL OF YOU TO THE MESS HALL! NOW!" He screamed in drill sargent fashion. Everyone was marching out to the exit door.
Soon as they got out each human had to wait for their Gaurdian or partner from yesterday as some could remember. A few had likely gotten too drunk but who could blame them from what the Raynar did, Everyone had a bad habit to relieve stress.
Eric finally got out stuggling with his worn black leather belt, he'd never part with his wife's last gift of all things. He smiled getting it buckled then sitting on a bench waiting with other Charges. The booming steps this time weren't of enemy Raynar but of their new allies of the UTO which had come three days after the Raynar. A few more scared minds had panic attacks as some went to calm others down. The whole invasion had been a massacure for many but some saw things no one can live with. That's why news of three sucides didn't surpise Eric but did deeply sadden him, they could've at long last gotten help. That is what seemed so wrong. The UTO were there to help out of kindness and humanity wanted to repay it tenfold back.
A black lupine got Eric's attention as then he realized it was a male, so no Shara yet.
The male seemed puzzled likely looking for his Charge till he decided to ask the other Charges.
"Have any of you seen 'Jackson' around?" He was annoyied while promably knowing how much his Charge partied by him nursing his own presumed hangover too. Eric gave him an anwser.
"Jackson's in the back cleaning himself up right now." He told the large male wolf know staring at him. Other gaurdians came by picking up carefully or allowing their Charges to walk onto their palms. The wolf grunted going off somewhere else Eric couldn't see. Just then Jackson came out looking nicer but still smelled from last night's party. Still wearing those sunglasses since their high school days looking over at Eric. Both looked at eachother for a moment. Eric started to smile as Jackson rushed to bear hug him with joy.
"Holy shit you're alive loser!" His voice was gravely but full of joy still making jokes.
"Hey Jackie! What happened last night?" Eric knew he hated that nickname with a passion. Jackson's face scrunched up confused yet surpised.
"I um don't really remember man. And fuck you for trying that one on me Eric." James couldn't be too mad at seeing a friend he once thought dead was right infront of him yet stumbled for words over tears in his hungover mind ablaze. Eric just hugged him harder happy to finally find this one stupid guy at long last. Both seemed lost for words but happier then most to be together. Then Shara had finally shown up seeing the full grown men hugging without such context. She giggled as the two then patted their shoulders heading off.
"So, I assume you're friends?" She smiled happy to see her Charge looked ready for their long day ahead of them both. Eric grabbed Jackson's collar draging him back after trying to slip away.
"This is my old dear friend friend Jackson, he's pretty cool." Eric couldn't help but love his buddy's pricless expression of rare emabassment.
"Yeah and I know one guy who's looking for him since he was late." Shara knew Leoi wouldn't be pleased but thankful this little guy wasn't lost on base yet. That was benfit of size to them.
The drill sargent came out draging a scared kid likely not expecting how many magiznes were spilling out a bag. Drity mags from before the invasion in plastic wrap. This kid had likely just made millions off them but forgot how mouthly guys could be. Jackson pushed the kid in the arm as he laughed, seemed they had met before.
Eric wait for Shara as she laid her palm out for him to walk on. He took his chance strambling onto it. She placed her hand next to her chest again now heading for the mess hall. Basic was a grand paridise compared to what hell most humans had lived thought. But mornings were always annoring and judging by how many soldiers were groaning or nearly asleep it was a universeal thing too.
"So, how much fun was your first morning here? Bet it was fun." Shara couldn't help but joke on it. She knew how ruff Basic was but Eric seemed tough enought.
"Drill sargent nearly yelled my ears off. Then I ran into my old friend who is likely being talked by some supiors over drinking. Loved the wake up call though." Eric had be sarcastic out of habit accually couldn't complain for what he had. Shara had luckly been around enough humans to understand sarcasm basicly.
"Better then before thought?" Like she even had to ask. Eric could help but laugh out happy she got his sarcasm.
"You don't even know the half of it Shara, This place in pratically paridse compared to it." Eric was just thankful for such an opporunite to get some revenge for those who couldn't. Those giant Raynar had pissed off one of the most violent little things in the universe, not even gods could save them from such a horrific fate from mankind.
"I don't know it but I've seen that hellish mess first paw and it seems like you all deverse a break over this training." Shara had been one of the medics assigned down on Earth looking for survivors and Eric being one of those lucky few yet neither knew it.
Eric yawned and soon Shara did herself. Both laughed together heading for the mess hall again.
"Let's just get breakfeast, I need my morning coffee." He couldn't wait to have coffee after nearly a year of constate hell of war.
"Yeah, I'm pretty hungery myself. Can't wait to see how you guys proform." She opened the door heading inside the huge canteen ready for her morning meal. Today was going to be a long one for sure.
