Max was beyond dedicated to his King, he sincerely loved the guy and he could tell that Simba loved him back. It was still a "secret" between them so these moments were enjoyed in private but they cherished every moment together.

I always thought of them having their daily intimacy by disappearing for an hour or two during the morning patrol but I really love the idea of them eloping. Just secretly becoming eachother's mate. Never telling anyone for the sake of the kingdom and going on as normal but just knowing in their hearts that they are together. And of course with any marriage comes that "honeymoon". The two big lions leaving under some false pretenses to enjoy eachother's company in some luxurious far off place. <3
