This was one half of an assignment for my Hand Lettering & Typography for Comics class. We basically had to come up with our own traditional font and use it in a three-panel comic to test it out. This is a demo of my font "Metallo," a chrome-plated heavy all-caps set that was also used in the Korgar introduction comic for Peter & Company.
Nothin' digital here, folks... all inked traditionally.

Oh yes indeed. Even when I find a school like this that embraces the art form and nurtures it as a legitimate medium, I still get goofballs who are shocked when I tell them I'm studying comics.
"Where do you go to school?"
"SCAD."
"Oh, fantastic! Are you a painter, sculptor, perhaps a portrait artist?"
"I draw comics."
"..... oh... I'm sorry?"
So many people don't consider cartooning to be an art form, which is hilarious since it's actually an abstract genre; you take what you see and break it down into an exaggerated reality. It takes as much skill and practice (to do it WELL) as any other form out there. Grab someone who does still-life's and portraits for a living, tell them to draw Bugs Bunny, and watch them fail miserably.
But I digress... rant over. SCAD rocks. Go there. :D

Actually this is true.. I know a very excellent artist, the type whom I'm prone to envying.. he took one look at my work and went "Wow, I'm so jealous of that! I *wish* I could do something so simple, yet so complete"
Truth be told, I think there's more money (in terms of that which is attainable BEFORE one's death) in cartooning than 'fine' art. Many a 'master' painter has died in poverty, only to have their works selling for millions now.. but plenty of cartoonists can find work, either as comic strip artists or doing political cartoons.
