Happy Easter everybody, here it is my morning doodle for Aperil. In Italy the Easter Bunny isn't famous, so I opted for the other Easter icon. This is a very silly gorilla, but have you ever realized that Christians go around with the ancient equivalent of a guillotine?

It's funny you mention that. The big reason why the Big G is depicted the way he is on things like the Sistine Chapel and other religious works is because they basically lifted the likeness of Zeus to draw in more pagans to the Christian faith. They did a lot of the same things for other icons as well. Mary herself was basically retrofitted to be a poor man's Freya, St. Brigid of Kildare is literally supposed to be a facsimile for the goddess Brigid (very clever), and several other saints, archangels, and other religious figures were embellished with elements and iconography of other pagan deities for the same reason. Basically, Christianity became like so many other Pokemon clones before it. Think less Digimon and more like... I dunno, Robopon or Lil' Monsters.
there's a lot of pagan iconography in Catholicism as well, but it's more Roman than Celtic or Norse, the first example is the Holy Mary which's a clear surrogate for the various Earth Mother cults. Even Halloween was originally a Roman pagan cult, the Lemuralia. But never tell a fervent catholic that, they will lose their mind.
Christmas is basically appropriated Yule and Saturnalia, Easter is several fertility festivals, and even Valentine's Day has a litany of lifted religious significance from other pagan holidays. Most importantly is this juicy tidbit of trivia:
St. Patrick's Day isn't just celebrating St. Patty driving serpents out of the Green Isle. "Driving the snakes out of Ireland" is quite obviously referring to non-believers and pagans out of their homeland, nearly erasing countless centuries of Celtic belief and tradition out of its home overnight. Basically, we're celebrating religious persecution. No wonder people wanna get plastered on that day!

When you put it that way it's a bit morbid. But, y'know, sacrifice and all that.
So, what, does he bounce on the bottom of the cross like a pogo stick when it's all fixed up together? His feet were pinned in, too, after all! ;P If you wanna go method actor on it, use hot sauce over ketchup. The stinging, burning pain really mimics bearing the sins of the world upon thy flesh!
Also, although I identify as Christian, I actually find this really funny, very well done (as usual) and... Morbidly, something I'd be curious to see in person. I mean... It's a better Christian gorilla mascot/patron saint for the furry community than Ultra-Gor, at any rate.
