"I've spoken to many people who would never augment themselves if given the chance. A lot of them fear the idea that it might somehow make them less 'human'. But, is this really a bad thing? a person is still a person, even if their limbs have been replaced with metal and plastic, even if they have implants, or displays in their eyes, or plugs in their skulls. The body is a tool for the mind and spirit. All we're doing is making an already amazing tool even better"
Man, what a story behind this one. Basically, I've been stressing a lot lately because, well.... I'm a perfectionist. everything has to be perfect... or at least, that's the way it was. thankfully I've had a few friends around to help me get over my pointless worrying, and this morning, I woke up, and went with the flow. By chance, It was Kace that ended up the subject, partially because she hadn't defined what she wanted for the second of two commissions. I kept remembering "Let it flow, You're just as good when you're not even trying, people are still gonna love it"
From the feedback so far, I think I'm gonna "let it flow" a lot more often

may my goddess have mercy on my heart, for it has all but stopped...
Strype, if i could translate the very depth of amazement and stress the various details i find in this image, i'd might as well write an article or story about this work of art and beauty.
however, i neither have the time nor you the time to read such things so i will try to be as brief as i possibly can:
you should definitely continue to "let it flow" because this is by far one of the most beautiful and stunningly detailed works i have seen in a while, mind you there are many artists that rival one another in my book, but this piece places among the top few that really bring mixed emotions out for me.
the depth in detail and emotion both in character but in words you put to it are well placed and well thought out. truly a magnificent and alluring work of art.
if this were to ever go up as a print, i would buy it in a heartbeat.

Oh god. muscles and inners! AND mechanics! Must fav!
But anyway, silliness aside I love how you made an inside view into her body. and the concept attached to it shows through the pic, because she isnt horrified or uncomfortable in anyway. Rather she's calm and accepting and loving it. Awesome shit.

Another kick ass job man! :D This looks really cool. I love the coloring and the balance.
And yes, let it flow.
If you fight the flow of the river, you don't go anywhere. But if push yourself with the current, you'll find yourself at your destination faster then you ever thought.

You should most definitely Go With the Flow!
FAV'D for awesome art, and the breakthrough in your mindset!

This is very... deep in a way... I am lost for words. The details are amazing, but the effect it has on a person just by looking at it. Wish I could capture it into better words. Well done, I do believe going 'with the flow' is the best idea as I can feel your frustrations {though not your level of art} of being a perfectionist when trying to draw. Must 'zen' for better art *nods with unknown wisdom* X3
Yes, Strype! Let it flow more often! I recall from long ago that you were adrift in self-doubt over how good you are but it seems you have found the answer to such doubts. Let it come out! Let it just flow from your mind and heart and artistic vision! For this picture is profound in ways you probably did not intend and it came from simply allowing a vision to come from yourself. It bears repeating at least twice for every picture you make: you simply have a GIFT, Strype. :)
I have to say, I've seen you pull off some pretty wonky anatomy before(and I don't mean because of style.) I'm not sure if it's because you let things flow or if it's because you probably would have needed some reference to pull this off, possibly both, but the anatomy is really good here. Good job, man. It's really nice to see this sort of improvement, especially when it came with you making some sort of peace with yourself.
And yes, go with the flow more often! I see journals about you getting art blocked or stressed out all the time, but the thing is sometimes you just gotta let that slide. There's a reason why pro artists make sure they take a break to draw something big or small for themselves when they're amidst all their work. Trying too hard, no matter who you're drawing for, is just going to make things worse.

I've always been a Protoss junkie... Not sure why, but I've been having dreams about the Protoss for the past few months. lol Not because of the SC2 release, because I never make a big deal about anything. I usually lock out all the hype and stuff, but I keep having dreams about the Protoss evacuating people off the planet. lol XD
Besides, where does it start? A tooth correction? A tooth replacement? A microchip so the blind can see?
With questions were does it start and were it should stop unanswerable, one shoulsn't begin to ask.
I mean If we can keep the brain alive, but the body is destroyed, what should we to if we had this technology give him a new body? Pull the plug? Give him an artificial body? Which of the two is more unethical?
As mentioned above, yes, it reminds a little of Ghost in the Shell.
Beautyful work.

Brilliant man, let it flow, bust the dam down and let it FLOW!
What's crazy is that the brain receives naught but electrical impulses and nutrients from the body. Who's to say the electrical impulses aren't manipulated by some greater portion of reality, and that we're actually receiving those nutrients from test tubes? The body is our perceived link to reality, so it's understandable the fear of losing it, but if reality is wrong anyway, why not make our body better able to perceive it?
Have you heard this craziness that by 2015 or somewhere around there we'll have the highest percent chance ever of creating full-blown AI? Every year past that the chance decreases because it will have somehow proven that we have been fundamentally wrong about some very fundamental fact of life and the universe.
Wild, no?

Transhumanism! Technology combined with the body and mind. I personally would augment myself to this level if I could, it would make mys life so much easier! Besides, this way you can control what you look like instead of having to rely on a combination of hard maintenance and luck from genetic structures. Nature isn't perfect, its up to us to find our own individual-level perfection. Straight to my favorites section this goes! Amazing piece of work!
I love the X-Ray effect, seeing bones, mucles, and augmentations in an even split down her body. You certainly chose an interesting background as well. Also, that little descriptive quotation goes amazing with this piece, and even got me thinking, and I think it's actually quite a fine arguement, and one I might find myself making were I so inclined. Your quotation descriptions, to me, are as evocotive as what you draw and compliment each other so well.
lovely and very emotional, it makes me think so much of ghost in the shell. The truth is however this type of technology is in it's infancy now, it's being developed. I'm sure I might see cyber bodies (however crude) in my lifetime. I don't see a problem with it nor do I think it would make a person less who they are. It's not what you are that defines you as person, it how you live your life and the choices you make that defines you as a person. I admire Motoko Kusangai, she lost her body in a plane crash along with her mother but she didn't mope, no she got up and went on with her life. if i could have a body like that that could what my old does but much better of course I'd make the transition especially since I could have a different gender or different appaerance. make myself the way I want.
Don't be surprised when cyber bodies come out that people mod the things like they do their cars and pcs.

Looking at all these comments, it's easy to see how you developed that wonderful(ly obnoxious) ego.
Ironically, this is one of your weaker pics in a while. The pose, colors and lighting are all just sorta blander than usual. I dunno, not terribly impressive. Great you're out of a slump and all, but perfectionism seems to work. Most of the time.

Of course it's my opinion, I said it. Everyone else's opinion means nothing to me, nor does it make the pic pretty awesome by consensus. Which I feel the need to express when you feel the need to point out "well, these people say this." So? People, who happen to be fans, will like anything you do. It's a no-brainer prediction.
Because that's exactly what it is, bucko. Look, I get it, overthinking and overstressing about getting the art just the way you want it was putting you in a slump and relaxing helped break you out of your block. Great. But the way that little exercpt was worded smacked more of "Well, so what if I don't put in the extra effort to get it juuuust right? I'm so awesome and my fans will kiss my ass anyway, so whatevs. lol", and your response of "well, these peeps say it's still sweet" just further speaks to my point as something a little less admirable than healthy self-esteem.
Well, the way I've got it figured is I've been workin my ass off for over 20 years to get where I am today, as far as my art, I might just deserve to have a little bit of an ego. I'm sure as shit not the top of the heap, but I'd be a fool if I said I wasn't damn good. but I can't be damn good if I've got nothin to show, thus the change in attitude. If I keep going with the perfectionist stuff I'll end up in the nuthouse.
Think of it like recognizing my abilities and learning to trust in them.
As for you, I kinda get the feeling from your comments like you're just trying to jack your ego up a bit at my expense and the expense of everyone else who's made a comment. Kinda comes off as "pshhh, I can do better" or "I'm cool because I've got better taste than anyone else here". You seem like the kinda dude who plays the passive-aggressive in an effort to convince yourself that you're one of the cool kids.
Just my opinion, I could be completely off.

Hey, whatever you gotta do to get back in the groove. I have nothing but respect for people aware of their worth and have a healthy egoor self-respect.(shame we can't all be humble, but there ya go.) While I am acutely aware of your drama-filled reputation, I try to give you and other big, vocal names the benefit of the doubt; we're all just human, you are who you are.
But when you speak and act(and react; again, it only speaks to my point when the most seemigly self-assured of peeps turn out to be the most sensitive to one-off prods at the ego, 'specially when it's just to point at the bandwagon) when like you don't even have to give a shit cause people will pat your ass anyway, that's what throws up the telltale redflag of a big fish in a tiny, loud pond, and I'm not known for letting that kind of repulsive egotism go appluaded. Not from someone with that much potential for greatness. Believe me, I wouldn't bother to comment on the art or imply that you're capapble of better if I was just trolling. Maybe I was off-base, maybe you should have chosen better words. Whatever.

Epic artwork, but the quotation in the desc is equally as epic. Transhumanism is an incredibly awesome prospect - I can't quite understand why people would be afraid to enhance themselves using our own means and technology. I just hope I'm not too old to catch it when it does happen. Heres hoping Raymond Kurzweil is right in saying it'll happen in less than 50 years. He's referencing the singularity at that point, but thats basically the intent.
Stuff like that makes me keep an eye on your art really - You have that vibe going. Sure as hell would commission you if I had the chance, I don't know of many other people bringing the tech vibe in their art these days.

Many parts of the genetic code has been decoded and as our computers and communications become faster by the day total manipulation of our genetic structure is only a matter of time. Scientists have already confirmed or created human hybrids only to destroy(or so they say) most of them before they develop, just to see if it is possible. Can you say Dr.Moreau? In fact scientists confirmed some primates and humans can naturally procreate. They just hid most of the findings until recently, for that... you know why reason. Now I'm sure that statement raises a few eww points for some. But hey lets face it, where would the first anthropomorphic being come from? The fact is, hybridization science had advanced enough as of 2009 that a ban on creating sentient animals was proposed for a bill. The asians however, want to harness the technology, perfect it, and create a market sometime next decade for humans who want "changes". I guess they really want their nekos. A few years ago the learning gene had also been discovered in lab mice, we know how to turn it off and increase it. I'm guessing the talking dog will be next on the designer pet list bringing a whole new meaning to man's best friend.
Sooooo... who really wants to be their fursona?
I'll take fangs, and a talking hound for 500 Alex. Anyone else?

We are souls encased in flesh. While the constitution of a soul is debatable and worth debating, the idea remains that we are not living things having spiritual experience, but apparently spiritual beings having a living experience. If this is true, then the purpose of a body then is ultimately to communicate; to convey and express the content of the soul that occupies it. If it becomes possible to augment the vessel itself in such a way that the entire vessel is a perfect expression of the being it occupies, why not do so? What do you fear by changing?
For my part, I found in a resource book for the tabletop game cyberpunk a procedure called flesh weaving, in which microscopic robots augment every bodily tissue, impregnating it with synthetic materials to augment every conceivable aspect of its performance. It's better than full body prosthesis, because while the original tissue is still there, the genius of human science has taken all of it nature to the point that it is nearly flawless. This concept has always had great appeal to me, and this image makes me think of it. Thank you for this, Strype. You're an amazing soul, and I hope you never stop expressing that. You'll always have at least one person who appreciates it.

Let me ask you a question: What is the definition of perfect according to the metaphysics capability? Can we say the organically transformed body is superior than mechanics because the body is fleshy, living and believable? Vice versa, when the full body prosthesis with human brain is having the close-to-perfect (according to the logic of the living organism) appearance, and able to live with their own "furry-dream" world, wouldn't it made any different than the organic body?

as much as i would ADORE TO BE A FURRY, mechanical means just isn't... living. the human mind is not all that is amazing. the human body is as well. in the interest of protecting our society somehow through evolutin we bacame highly limited. yet when you test the body through powers of adrenaline, a human being is unbelievable powerful, fast, and enduring, such that i found out, the true limit of human endurance even with no food in a 20 hour period, is near limitless. extent a person beyond crippling pain in various exercises, especially cardio and let that person try to breach it, and that person goes from incredibly tired and nearly falling over from agony, the person will notice a gradual decrease in both fatigue, exhaustion, and pain such that they become nill after 30 minues, even upon stopping the recontinuing 45 seconds later. the human body is actually one of the most efficiently run machines in all of existence, and nearly all of nature.
anyway, being a machintakes from that gift nature made you. not only that but theres no soul, only a program in a piece of metal called a "brain" really a motherboard and/ or cpu
anyway, being a machintakes from that gift nature made you. not only that but theres no soul, only a program in a piece of metal called a "brain" really a motherboard and/ or cpu
I am interested to see that response. Some said human and other living beings must maintain what the nature "gifted" to them, and never change them in all the methods. However, for our dogmatic definition and logical sense, we humans are perfect and never need to be changed, including the soul itself; and then in spiritual and instinctual desire, we humans are too envious toward other animals which they could survive better than live with pure power without with any use of tool. For our own senses we lives better than animals, but according to the survival's logic, human can still be an instinctual prey when the beast is hunting.
Not only for furry, but also other feral fandom, really believe that human body is WAY TOO weak.
All you had mention about human improvement is based on the physical strength and endurance, but actually there's a lot more than that. Put a comparison between human and cheetah: Human can run faster, but they won't use all of their limbs to gallop and stride which made cheetah achieved an immediate top speed; human can fight and kill with improved power, but they won't clench their omnivorous jaws at their "prey" while cheetah can simply tear the body apart with a proper fangs and snout; human have the body capable to do lots of things, but cheetahs have only what they could survive of, and majorly outperform most of the humans. The furry concept is to put what the animals could do better than human naturally, into the bipedal, sentimental organism.
That isn't much different as being an mechanic, that because the soul of both real cheetah and human are "dead" in the furry body if according to your logic. Even it's organic and sentiment, but the body has took away what both human and cheetahs are possessed to be a new specie, if according to the specie, they're entirely new, and only capable to learn "humanity" with that body.
To be a cyborg, of course is to maintain the organic brain alive, healthy and in one piece, so I wouldn't be surprised if being mechanic is mean that the once-human brain stuffed into a synthetic body, even it's a shape of human or a furry, or even an animal or such. If you define the soul is all about the sanity and conscious, then I can tell you being a cyborg won't change their soul in that perspective. Unless, like otherkin community, to be a furry or feral because the soul inside the human body isn't human, and want a transplanting process to remove their conscious from the human flesh, into the cybernetic body to match with their own soul.
Simply say, being a furry robot/cyborg is depend on the conscious they can identify and remember who and what they are before and after the procedure, not they body which must be constructed and systematized based on the "almighty god" whom created fleshy, living organism.

As I understand BOTH transhumanism and posthumanism, I would only support the humanity can be reincarnated and metaphysically "morphed" into a new mechanic beings which is match their own true identity. Of course, even they're physically changed, doesn't mean they should have change the title from person to "creature" as well.
