Obviously, I did a bit of tweaking to exaggerate the expression. Also added a tail, which I can't believe I didn't notice was missing in the reference pic. People have been drawing him without his tail this whole time and I never picked up on it. Honestly, at this point he's been drawn with it so rarely I wonder if I should just adopt the tailless version as the default. Oh, well. Too late to worry about it now.

Anyway, Umakao is very serious about trespassers on his land - in the sense that by being serious about it, he has an easy justification for his cruelty. Here, Kagome, on her endless (well, I guess it did end eventually) quest for the Shikon Jewel, unwittingly entered the oni's domain. As is his want, he punished her with transformation into a humiliating form: a tanuki!
This is going to be trouble, you just know it.
