You guys know I'm a big scifi guy and well while listening to some audio commentary on a sketch they did for an early idea of including the greys into the game. Said idea was scrapped although the eyes did end up making it into the Salarians. But anyway I thought it was a pretty neat idea and decided to include them and come up with a bit of their back story.

Here we have Arken. A member of the Greys or as they call themselves the Gelkin. His species evolved on a planet similar to earth and followed a similar evolutionary path to humans. Now the Gelkin have only been a part of the galactic community for approximately 5000 years. Not long by their standards. Their ships were quite advanced and able to travel far. They are on par technologically with any other race. The only reason for their late arrival to the galactic scene was the location of their homeworld being on the edge of the galaxy and some distance from any Mass Effect Relay.

They have also had some interaction with humans before humans discovered Mass Relays. The Roswel crash was one of their damaged scout ships being pulled into a wormhole and crash landing on the at the time uncharted earth. It is not known if any other Gelkin ships found this wormhole. If so and as some theorized Gelkin were performing experiments on earth it was without the sanction of their government or the council.

Gelkin are an intelligent peaceful species with powerful telepathic and biotic abilities. They are beings ruled by logic and reason. Emotions rarely come into play in their decision making. The Gelkin are a partially synthetic race. Some of their genes are artificial. They have photographic memories and can learn quite quickly. They're quite rational in regards to everything. Gelkin find it strange that other species are still religious.

Which is part of why Arken is on a Hanar world. He's studying their history and religion out of curiosity. He's a fairly nice guy and very polite when asking his questions to the Hanar. He finds it curious that the Hanar have such reverence for the Prothians on a level of worship. But having good eyes he does greatly appreciate their art. He plans to visit many other species worlds to learn about them for himself. He plans to visit the migrant fleet next finding the Quarians and their history with the Geth very fascinating
