Part 2 of 2.
Every once in a while, I think on how Mirage might turned out the way she did. A lover's spat might not be enough to turn to evil, but it's definitely a step in the wrong direction if not properly taken care of.
Tying up an event like the death of Hebrew babies by Pharaoh's orders has been an idea of mine since revisiting The Prince of Egypt movie. It's not a definitive moment in Mirage's life, but what if the mentality remained? That this was acceptable? That level of apathy is scary... Also, for all the antics I portray Asael and Mirage in, I felt the need to remind people of the darker side of slave/slave owner relationships.
This piece challenged me every step of the way. The angles, the anatomy, the clean-up, and more crucially, the message. This is the most serious piece I've ever submitted, with topic that really strike a nerve with me, like child abuse.
There's one more thing I want to say: we may revel on the wonders of the ancient world, but we must never forget that empires of yesterday -whether Chinese, English, Greek or Egyptian- were built on blood.
So at the risk of getting severely burned by armchair philosophers or having to answer questions beyond my capabilities, I give you this.
For those that don't know, Asael, the jackal, isn't from the same time as Mirage. It's all explained in my little story. You can find it in my gallery.
