Actually I meant because it was Doki Doki Panic painted like Mario because Japan didn't think we could handle their Mario 2, A.K.A. The Lost Levels, as seen in Super Mario All Stars.

Not entirely sure what you mean by that here's me taking a shot at answering you...

Lost Levels was really similar to the original Super Mario Bros, but hard as fuck. They thought we'd find it TOO hard and/or repetitive because it was so similar to the first game.

Super Mario All Stars is a collection of Super Mario Bros 1-3 & The Lost Levels. Remade for the Wii fairly recently, originally on SNES.
