My beloved rat, Rodney, whom passed away suddenly from what I believe was a fall, on July 5, 2010. I only had this boy in my life for 6 weeks, but he changed my life forever. He was the best rat I have ever had, and I will miss him always.
I just had to post this picture because of his gorgeous little ears. I used to call him "butterfly boy" because his ears reminded me of butterfly wings. Even if you don't like rats, this picture is sure to put a smile on your face.

Oh, and please excuse the messy cage. It was taken right after feeding time, and male rats can be little pigs lol.

Ohhhhhhhh my goodness!~ He's such an adorable boy! I'm sorry you lost him I know what its like to lose a rat, besides dogs I think they are the best pet you can have. I lost my first rat to a bad URI that it seemed he had right when I got him, I only had him for two weeks when he died, I cried for several days. Now I have two dumbo boys that are the loves of my life. Hopefully in the near future I'll be able to get a hairless boy (I adore the hairless variety, when I noticed this rattie was hairless I nearly peed myself X3).
Hairless rats really make me melt. Of my 15 rats, 4 are hairless, and 2 are "patchwork hairless" or double rex (very thin, sparse coat). I love these guys to death. Unfortunately, I cannot afford to have Rodney cremated, so he will be buried in a little garden we have at my house by the beach.
I would love to have such a big family of rats, but I still live with my parents and they won't allow that many. ATM I'm happy with my two dumbo boys I got. Zeke is a black berkshire, and Maxie is a black and white hooded.
But I have a very hard time going into pet stores. Recently I saw a poor hairless boy at a Petsmart that seemed very lethargic, had a runny nose, and he also had a big cut on his ear, which was beginning to scab over. I nearly cried I ended up telling an employee and they said they'd take care of it, but I highly doubt they actually did anything for the poor thing.

Oh no thats so sad! I rescued a girl from a pet store when she was 4 weeks old, she was in a cage with a mother and nursing pups and she had no idea how to eat on her own. At some point, she must have gotten into a fight or something because half of her ear was ripped off and only hanging by a tiny piece of skin. The extra ear skin was removed so no accidents would happen and she is doing great now, just look like someone cropped one of her ears lol
