The mail came by shortly later that night. Everyone in the barracks was ready to pass out long due letters and packages. Shara went to the pickup platform it her human charge and mail. Eric loved that clean feeling from a shower as he stepped out onto the open platform again waiting for her. Once she arrived he slid into Shara's palm noticing the stack of letters in the other.
"You got mail without me?" Eric said it like a disapointed child. She couldn't like but giggled at his little display. Eric was scared he missed out on the deliveries.
"Nope, You got something too. And it's a little package." She smiled almost laughing at his face. It seemed just priceless for her.
"Uh, what would a 'small' package to you be in my scale?" He wanted to see just how big this thing was compared to him. She could hide her grin any longer.
"Propably the size of a cargo container to you I'll guess." She didn't want to make him nervous after all but loved that cute shock expression on his face a little too much. She carried him back to her bunk which was thankfully the lower one.
She carefully placed him down once she sat on one side of her bed. Shara then placed the package infront of him.
"So here your package!" Shara was exicted to see what he gotten. The box was a strong cardboard with cards in two distictive sizes. Eric walked around it seeing no stamps or marking to figure where it came from.
"I never ordered anything this big last month. I would've rembered that." Eric just pondered just who sent him such a large package. As he was in thought, Shara grabbed the larger card reading it carefully. Eric watched her reading yet unable to see her reactions as he waited for her to finish.
"So what does it say?" He questioned. Sort of worried by her quick frown.
She started out slowly. "Remeber how you said your grandfather had died last year and you couldn't attend is funeral?" Eric was puzzled yet his grandfather whom of all things had been a soldier, spy and writter had been a very strange man to him. All the more reason to open such a huge box for himself.
"He mailed you this as a last present of sorts." She finally got it into words. Shara looked up from her card not seeing Eric. Her heart jumped to panic, If anything had happened to him!
"It's a car!" he yelled from inside the package nealy giving her a heart attack. Shara slowed her breathing thankful he was just fine.
"You nearly gave me a heart attack Eric!" She only heard Eric laughting hard echo out of the box. "So what's an earth car like anyway?" She relaxed more focusing on this new thing he had. She has been wondering what they were like for a while since Eric talked about these vehicles often.
"Well, How about I just drive it out for you to see!" He yelled out of the box unsure of how nosie canceling it was. Shara
figiting became rampant with shock.
"Really?" She was exictied like a kid at christmas in human terms. Her interest was at it's peak.
The jet black car slowly revered up driving out of it's container. A beautiful black 1967 classic mustang came out shining in the room's light. It seemed like a toy in her scale of size. Yet Eric counldn't believe what an adrenaline rush he was having out of exictment.
"This is the best thing to ever happen to me!" Eric was giddly with happiness dying to try it out wanting to see just how wonderfully it handled racing fast. Shara coughed looking at him with that 'Serously?' look and he just kept on giggling then speaking.
"Ok, Ok... Third best thing to happen to me!" He corrected himself for Shara.
The mustage's chrimed hightlights gleamed as did the black and white striped paintjob. She dipped her head down seeing Eric's little smiling face making her coo in how cute he seemed. Eric could stop fantatizing how much fun he'd have with it soon.
"It sure is a lovely looking vehicke Eric." She did like the way it gleamed and shined soully make for one thing. She also didn't know much having little to comment on.
As he looked around his new ride Eric noted how perfect everything was, it looked brand new to him with only the smallest of little smugs or wear in the corners. Eric finally got to the glove box finding a letter and sunglasses. "Woah, found something..." he was shocked by this discovery. Shara's muzzle took up his view outside the windshield.
"What did you find?" Eric could see her tail but he heard t wagging. She was interest alright.
"A letter and some 80s sunglasses in the glove box." He placed on the newly found sunglasses looking at himselft in the rearview mirror. Shara couldn't stop laughing at how stupid those sunglasses looked on him. "There NOT that bad Shara!" He yelled in defence only to second geuss himself. "They don't look stupid do they?"
She had to cover her muzzle in order not roar out laughing at him proving she thought of them as stupid. He moved on to the letter opening it. The letter itself was typed out on trational typewriter. Eric's happiness seemed to drain suddenly from himself as he read it to himself. Shara looked at him again now calmed down from her laughing fit seeing him paper white.
"Eric? Are you ok?" She asked in that tender tone whenever something seemed off. Eric snapped out of his trance folding the letter into his pocket. He never did that before.
"Yeah.. I'm fine, really." He took a deep sigh. His voice seem shakened to her.
"Are you sure? If it's anything crazy you can talk about to me." She wanted to resolve this for both their sakes hoping this wouldn't ruin their weekend plans. Eric let out a long sigh. "I'm fine, So forget about it." His voice was stern yet still a little shaken. Shara almost pushed the matter till Officer Rimbincosh came in.
"LIGHTS OUT!" She yelled grabbing everyone's attention, she was great at that.
Shara gave Eric help back to the platform as they quickly said goodnight to each other. He settled down into his relatively new bunk, it felt too perfect for him after that war. That one battle of Chicago seemed to never end for his nightmares contuined on as he tired to sleep the night away.
