The bomb dropping jets had been one hell of a suprise for him. Eric kept one firing his grenade launcher manging to make good use with his well placed traps too. Those Ranyar didn't stand a chance. Till a few jets got hit retreating back for help and fuel. He was alone again fighting off such huge monsterous beings with simple explosives. They just kept on coming but he had to hold them back as long as he could. The people needed all the seconds he could give. At the very least he'd die standing for what he worked for. Then a heavy bomber caught his attention and the radio roared to life.
"Sir! Fall back now! We're laying down napalm!" The soldier yelled at him. He could run now, not yet.
"I'm staying till I'm out of ammo pal! Good luck!" Eric yelled back still firing grenades praying those good survivors made to Chicago.
The giant lizards kept yelling in some strange hissing languge he'd couldn't and didn't care about understanding. He just wanted them dead or gone from Earth.
"Please man! GET YOURSELF OUT NOW!" The soldier yelled it and Eric didn't pay any mind to it anyway. Stil not time to retreat, time to stand and fight them.
The oliver heavy bomber readied it's bombbay and released the naplam below...
It worked with horrificly great effect on the Raynar's armor and guns, perfectly burned their scalely skin too. They screamed in pain colapsing to their knees crying, whaling as the bomber's crew felt that revenge had just finally started smiling at the scene below themselves. The old mall's structure wasn't going to last as it slowly began to crumble like sand falling down with Eric standing on the steel skylight beams. He realized how quick his safe position was now far far worse as one of the burning Raynar was falling near him too. Everything shook and rattled as he tried to not fall into the mall's interior.
Everything just happened within seconds as UTO forces had just arived to this terrorifing scene of death and destruction. It shocked many UTO how violent yet intventive humans were when it came to death. Human UN and soldiers started to rush in as UTO sucured the area. Chicago had been cut off from radio and nearly all means of contact, so they had no clue who the UTO truly were. This was one reason for their expation in this wathing northern cold. Everyone was scared of what poor survivors they might find since their last check this group had been very large, yet nobody so far... It seemed like a nightmare and so no corpses were found either beside the dead Raynar themselves.
He could barely move as the whole stucture so weak had finally colapsed under leaving him somewhere under rubble. Eric smelled blood with his sight barely usefull to him now. It wasn't his blood but the dead Raynar who were bleeding to death outside, he couldn't help but smile knowing he'd brought the others time to escape out. More booming steps and lots of them with voices in different langues then some english.
Something bright shined like a flashlight above him but he couldn't make out what it was. So he stayed dead still not making a single sound less a Raynar was looking for him. Yelling and footsteps of normal people echoed down to his ears, accutal people had found him. Eric thanked god silently only to realize a concrete slab had him pinned legs and chest. Moving caused horrific pain but he could still move his legs which meant they were broken not nerve damage at least. Those darker thoughts came back to him.
"What if they are the Raynar and the traitors?" It seemed so unlikely yet anything was possiable these days. He didn't want to die or join the Raynar, he'd rather die free then a lizard's slave or pet. Then a rubble caused him to look up seeing an alien hand lifting the concrete with such ease. The show of power scared Eric as it had so many times before. Just how small and meanless humans were to the galaxy after all. He stayed quiet.
After it got the rubble clear the armored figure above him loomed like some metal monster. It looked straight at him staring down with blue lights for eyes. Eric just paniced trying to fake dead but it was too late for that. The metal beast's fingers carefully slid inside pinching the slab holding Eric down and then likely grab him too. His mind raced looking around spoting the grenade launcher nearly out of arms reach. That was his ticket for survival. The least he could do was save himself this time but even that seemed impossiable. It finally lifted the slab up enough for him to move, he took his risk.
Rushing for the launcher he prayed he wouldn't miss, yet to forgot another big issue. Eric's rushing brain didn't had time to process what was truly happening yet. He held the launcher, aimed fast to it's face and fired. The beast helment was damaged as Eric when again to fire, the launch only clicked... "Fuck." was the only word that fit this second of his mind knowing death was here. The beast then cupped it's head as he dove to find more ammo if any around. He wasn't looking as her helment was removed quickly. Eric scrabbled not able to move so fast thanks to his whole body in terrorable pain.
He turned his back just seeing a 40mm grenade laying in a ruined box, he lunged for it grabing it just in time. The metal beast's fingers had shadowed him as he fumbled trying to load his launcher. She lifted him up causing the round to slip falling down as he rose up. Eric was turned now facing this 'metal monster' that had a lupine like head with midnight black fur staring annoried at him using her sky blue eyes. Dread filled him showing his face drained to a paper white in fear and horror stuttering peards of mercy.
Shara couldn't believe such a small thing had fired at her out of fear! Those Raynar were going to pay dearly for such horrific actions of this invasion their doing. She sniffed him picking up his heavy fear, blood and sadness on him. This poor man seemed just shivering in her grapse. She didn't know what to do and neither did Eric, he just couldn't handle the pressure what could happen. He could be crushed, eaten or shuved up 'somewhere'. He could help but shiver at such dark possibilities.
She seemed to be whipered like a distressed dog for some reason. "Maybe she's sorry?" He hoped so, but those dark thoughts came back to him. "What if she needs your 'help' with something?" Then he was screwed.
Yet she stuck out her tounge making Eric think the worsest was happening at last. He was going to be eating or worse by a giant alien dog of all the ways to go out in this world.
Shara licked him once then nuzzled him gently as he kept on punch when she licked him. When she nuzzled him, he seemed to understand her ture intensions. He hugged her nose hard cause her to jolt a little.
Eric was just thankfull these guys were likely that UTO group he'd heard about, the good guys fighting them and againist those damned lizard bastards. He was finally safe for once.
"Shara! Put that human down by the medics and contunie on!" Shara's comander order her, she bolted up right saulting the orange fox. "Yes sir!" She ansewered nervously heading straight to the medics coming up to the area.
The loud barking chirp nosies scared Eric and also this wolf too. She then did something as what he belived a saulute and she was heading towards the back of the ranks from what he saw. Then those white tent bearing that red cross seemed like heaven for him. At long last it seemed like life and God had given him a break. But he could help but feel as if this was all just too good to be ture then pinching himself feeling pain knew this was sadly still reality.
Shara asked for a streacher for the poor human she saved and one of the other human nurses came right over in a run. Eric was suddenly becoming very sleeply thinking it was likely blood loss or all his pain putting him into shock. But that nurse that came rushing over placing on that streacher with care and speed, her voice seemed so familiar too. He wishpered one last word before falling into sleep, "Emily?".
For the nurse now worried panicing with her thanking Shara repeativly over and over. Shara had just saved someone who still had another waiting for them, she said she was only doing the her job yet was thankfull for this one human women's praise and gratitude.
Eric was fast asleep as the old shaking medical van continued to Chicago behind the UTO guards. Emily had finally found her lost fascia after four, no more like five long months. She couldn't thank that lupine woman enough for her help saving Eric. She'd heard those tales of one religious man being a leader of hope going by the alas 'Shepard' knowing full well it was her pet name for him. For once three lives seemed to be getting better even during such an apocaylptic event.
