ITS A COYOTE, I was sketching from a photo and seeing if I could capture the essence of coyotitude because it seemed to me like coyotes and red foxes had exactly the same shape faces. I guess coyotes actually have a little thinner muzzle than foxes even, though, but their slightly larger size makes it not seem as small perhaps?
Thats just my latest guess.

don't know about the whole coyote vs. fox head shape thing... but i know this is an excellent pic! for some reason i favor traditional art over digital. Dunno why. i guess i feel it requires more skill, as in digital it's easier to hide/erase/fix up all the mistakes/imperfections/whatnot
I don't like or prefer art that takes more skill, I like a pic or not based on whether... I like the pic or not. More difficult MIGHT entail fewer people doing it that way, which in turn could mean its rarer, which could mean I like it more because its refreshing change from the norm... but thats pretty indirect. I just like what looks good, whether it comes from an assembly line or the blood/sweat/tears of a hundred widows on death row.
That said, this is a study in sketching from photographic reference... its a good practice I think for noticing details, which can then be incorporated into one's natural drawing style... like some of the way the fur falls around the face I think i'm gonna start putting into my freehand arts. Its good practice to be able to draw exactly what you see, every line, shadow and curve... though I did have to experiment with shortcuts to doing some of the fur as I couldn't quite get it to look exactly right reproducing every grain exactly.
