Dandelions are capable of self-pollination, however they do provide important source of nectar and pollen to pollinators in the early spring as they are some of the earlier flowers to bloom before the orchards and spring flowers.

Among gardeners there has been some debate wether a garden is healthier with or without dandelions (some say they provide critical source of food for pollinators in the early season, some say they are a distraction from the plants we do want to get pollinated). And like any ecosystem, a garden benefits from biodiversity.
