The world started ending in the 21st century and everyone could watch it happen. Climate change was an apocalypse in slow motion; slowly raising sea levels, creating horrible storms that tore down whole cities.
When the billionaires started offering a way off the planet, a way to ignore the problem for another few thousand years and untold lifetimes, most people took it.
They bought tickets on those starships, they lined up at launch day, and they sailed off to the stars without so much as a glance back.
Of course, not everyone could afford those tickets, and when profits were at stake people were turned away even if there was still room on the shuttles.

That was generations ago. A bitterness lingers in the survivors on this desiccated corpse of a planet, but there are still some who hope.
They hope there might still be a way to fix the slow death of their world, or they hope they might find one last way out.

Leslie is the latter, wandering in search of a fabled starship, left abandoned in a hanger at some classified location. She wanders in search of it, knowing her efforts are likely for naught, but never giving up her hope.
