Some stories are made up (well... most of them are) and others are inspired. This is one of those inspired by artwork I could not help but smile at.

My gratitude to
dangerwood the artist, and
cathodeglow its owner, for its use. Being a Call of Duty gamer (in a small way) I got more than a bit involved with this one, but it's a fast seven pages.
Enjoy,
Vixyy

It's an episode of Black Mirror. The premise is that it's a Star Trek style ship and crew on this online video game. Except it's actually the genetic memory of the people the "captain" works in an office with on the same video game project. The digitised version of the colleagues of the "captain" then stage a coup in order to free themselves of his control.
Indeed, the idea of video game characters becoming self-aware is pretty terrifying when you think of things from their perspective, lots of story potential there.
The ending also reminded me of what happened when Ultima Online launched back in the day: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KFNxJVTJleE&list=PLKBPwuu3eCYkScmqpD9xE7UZsszweVO0n

I had a funny one happen today... while I was in a game, I had to field a phone call from the body shop, and while I was on the phone, there was this clown character that kept killing me. When I could again concentrate, I took great pleasure in blasting the living daylights out of him.
Bwahahahahahahaha.....

I've had that happen a few times as well. Just yesterday I was kicking back and enjoying a good simcade racer, had an event about to start - someone messaged me about a moment before the actual race began; leading to a moment where my virtual Jaguar just sat on the starting grid for close to a minute as I rushed to check.
Eventually just went "screw it" and the lost ground did little to change the outcome.
That kind of thing is at its worst in online games though, simply because there's no way to hit 'pause' short of exiting the session.
How perfect that the clown that had it out for you, you gave him the punchline in return. *chuckles*
