The Parks back Then.
This town… is no different than any other town I’ve lived in.” He said as he walks the streets of Havor. It has been a couple of weeks, the townsfolk are still getting used to the wolf. Some folks waved to him, he acknowledged them; though frankly, some familiar reaction tend to happen. When he turns his gaze to some. They immediately turn away. Some even walk the other direction. He heard a few whispers here and there. Nothing too alarming, just the usual banter he usually comes across. “It’s that wolf… again,” “Stay away from him, honey. There something off about that man.” “Keep your distance.”
People always judge the wolf, If not for his horns, or his black eyes, they probably would think otherwise. Frankly he didn’t care. They can approach him whenever he wants. If they can make pass the intense tension he gives off.
“They reek of fear and temptation. It soo thrilling.” He heard it whisper to him. “Order me and gather them. I’ll bring them to their knees and make them lick your feet.” It kept insisting. More and more it pleaded and begged the wolf to let it have fun. Its words sounded like a panting dog eager to be let out.
“I am in no mood for your squabble.” He said and continued on. The street lamps flicked on as the sky started to darken. Citizens walked the street. Some headed to their cars, while others walked past the wolf and disappeared. A pair happened to bump into the wolf as he turned his direction to the park. He growled at the wolf, but immediately froze when he stared at him. Masson looked back at him. The pair immediately apologizes and makes haste. They walked away and disappeared somewhere down the road.
“OOH, what fun we could have done to him and his partner.” The whisper cackled softly. “I’m getting all excited.”
“I said enough.” Masson scoldly commanded, “I said I’m in no mood.” He turned and walked into the park. Night had approached the town. The sky was painted with a hue of dark blue and a shade of purple. Stars had popped around like daisy. The street lights flicked, once or twice, and illuminated a warm glow. A couple of joggers ran ahead, though they didn’t notice the wolf. He shrugged it off and kept on walking. After a while the park felt empty, despite seeing one or two jogger roaming around.he said The wolf stopped and took a seat on a small railing.
He took a big breath and let out a big sigh. He ran his paw through his hair like a comb and moved it back. The air gave a musty smell. He closed his eyes and listened. Small rumbles were heard in the distance. “Expect some rain to come.” he thought out loud.
He looked across the park and noticed something, the street lights flickered a bit, but in the illuminated area showed a small rustic playground. Complete with a swing set built to swing 3 kiddies and tikes, a small jungle gym with two big slides, and a small sandbox. The swing set swung gently against the wind, small, disregard toy buckets and shovels were left in the sandbox, the jungle gym laid empty with collected trash surrounding it. Once it he bet it was filled with plenty of kids and their watchful parents.
He smirked and sighed, “You all would have loved this town.”
The sound of children’s laughter echoed in the area. He closed his eyes and when he opened them again… he saw a different jungle gym. One with an incredible playpen. Children were screaming and laughing as they chased each other around. Some climbed the jungle gym and raced to the top to ride the incredible long slide. Families gathered in view of their children. Parents chatted with one another but turned their head to keep watch of their kids. Their faces appeared blank. Why would they? Masson never knew who they were.
To his left came a pack of horned wolves. Though the others' horns hadn’t shown, the older one had his plain sight. He was the leader of this pact. It was a younger Masson. Still in his teens, but a strong leader of his kin. His siblings gathered around. They wanted to go to this park. Especially their youngest. All of her friends loved going here. She waved to a couple and took off.
The other two siblings stayed behind. His other young sister brought out and spread out a blanket for them to lay on. She claimed her spot and sat down. While his other brother sat down and wrapped himself with his thick sweater. His friends were there and waved for him to come and join them. He politely declined, they awed and told him they’ll bring him back something. Masson couldn’t remember what it was. His brother pouted and sighed. He so wanted to go out and play with the other kid, like he used too. If he wasn’t so feeble and sick. Masson patted his back and assured him. Once he all better he can go and play with all the kids. Heck they’ll throw a party and celebrate. They’ll invite everyone.
Well, it was wishful thinking. His brother always looked forward to getting better and couldn’t wait for that party. He would always never let Masson forget about it. He was still happy though, He was so grateful that he got to go outside today and be with his kin.
The youngest called him over. She said, “Big brother! Masson! Masson! Over here!” She beckoned him to come. Masson nodded and got up from his seat. He walked over and she ran off to the jungle gym. He chased after but could never catch her. She was too fast, or he rather let her win. He was a different person back then. He was so happy.
Those faceless parent’s called their kids back. It was time to go home. Masson and his young sister waved goodbye as they did to them. Once they reached their families they vanished. One by one, the families vanished into nothing til all that was left was the wolf’s family. HIs feeble brother walked towards the playground, his little sister grabbed his little paw and pulled towards the slides. “Careful…”Masson replied.
She laughed and replied. “We will!” Then they headed to the playground. He smiled and huffed peacefully. His other sister came and wrapped her arms around him. He hugged her back.
The playpen was all there for the rest of the evening. They can take their time and enjoy themselves.
“We got to enjoy these times.” His sister said.
“That we do.” He replied. She sighed, and paused for a long time. Masson didn’t notice since his attention was more on his other siblings climbing towards the slide.
“Things would have been like this all the time…” She states, cutting Masson’s attention away from his younger siblings. “...If you didn’t do what you did.”
And his younger sibling had also vanished
Masson turned around and gasped. His younger sister had disappeared. He turned back and his younger siblings had also vanished. He got up, in a big gasp. Looked around the area, but there was nothing. No one around. But the sound of children’s laughter echoed around. They got closer, but he still couldn’t see anything. His young sister voiced along. Repeating the same thing in a eerie haunting voice, “Things would have been like this all the time… if you didn’t do what you did.”
Boom. Crackle. Suddenly he gasped and clutched his chest. He gazed around and he was back in Havor. The late night jogger ran past him for what seemed to be the fifth time. The playground was still there… under the flickering light. He gazed up and noticed the stars weren’t above. Instead storm clouds started to form. Small booms of thunder were heard. Rain drop fell on the ground and soon picked up. Before he knew it, the rain had reached him.
He lifted up his paw and felt the rain splashed all over his paw. “Rain doesn’t stop for no one.” He commented and got up.
He heard an eerie hiss. Look at his shadow and notice it’s movement. He sighed and said. “I don’t need an umbrella.” It stopped and reformed back to it’s normal self. “Just let me walk in peace.” He shook and his rings jingled along. He headed down the other way. Though the exit of the park was the other way.
