I got a couple robo ponies in the mail today from eBay.
Unfortunately I can't test them until my AA batteries charge up, which will probably take until tomorrow. (Though, I might just go brake down and go to the store 😆)
These ladies are not easy to come by, and are ridiculously expensive, especially if you want to get one that still has the accessories that it interacts with. (To get one new will set you back about $200 for the pony, and $300 for the unicorn on Amazon)
I got the unicorn without accessories for about $25, and the pony with accessories for about $30. Quite a deal!
I'm hoping they both function, though one of them will inevitably be sacrificed for science, as I'll be dissecting one (probably the pony) to learn how it works, and maybe help inspire a design for my own project.
[EDIT]
Well, even though my batteries aren't fully charged yet, I decided to try them in these gals to see if they work or not.
The pony was able to turn on for a few seconds before it shut itself off again. Apparently the batteries are still too low.
However the unicorn won't turn on at all, which makes me think she is non-functional. I tried the batteries in the unicorn first, so she should have at least turned on for a few seconds like the pony did. And there was something rattling inside her, which turned out to be a screw.
So it seems that it might be the unicorn that will be the one to be dissected. Too bad. I was really hoping they would both be functional...
But hopefully I'll be able to repair her when I disassemble her, and put her back together? I never intended to destroy either one after all, I wanted to take one apart to see how it worked. So keeping the parts intact as much as possible is ideal. I just know that most toys aren't designed to be able to disassemble without braking them, but looking at these girls (and after already opening the unicorn's chest cavity), it looks like they can actually be taken apart without breaking them, as they are held together with screws rather than glue.
[EDIT]
SHE WORKS!!!
The unicorn started working! I'm so happy! They both are functional! ^w^
