In my spare time the last week or so I wanted to work on some more background stuff for Luthien. I decided it might be easiest to start by illustrating the basics: what kind of elf she is, where she lives, where she exists in the timeline, etc. Stuff that really just digs into some Middle Earth lore and puts a spotlight on where my character fits into it. Its quite a deep pond to dive into but I do find that when I need something answered I'm only a google search away. ^.^
Quick disclaimer: My Luthien is not THE Luthien. I feel like that may cause confusion to anyone new here so better to get it out of the way now. I'm not trying to claim a major canon character from the stories, mine is simply named after her.
Anyway, now that that's cleared up here we go. SO - Elven family tree, for the purpose of telling you a few things about Luthien's kin. She is a Laiquendi elf, a race of elves that were known for being particularly close to plants and animals. (As in, we know elves live in harmony with Nature but THESE elves are the Snow-White singing to the birds and making friends with the bunnies of the Elf world.) After their King was slain they became a tribal folk and disappeared into the forest entirely, where they made no cities that could be discovered by the enemy (or even a friend if they didn't wish it). They are said to be the only Elves that were entirely vegetarian, as they did not approve of anyone who cut down trees or killed animals. I imagine them to be marvelous gardeners though and quite good at foraging.
