So, if intuition and gut instinct are correct, they're both screaming "Do not jump out and say, 'While I admire the need for the theatrics, that's how most villains fail in their little world domination/kill the protagonist schemes; monologuing/dialoguing for too long. It gives your enemies time to make a counterstrategy or escape.' in the condescending, know-it-all tone of 'Here's what you're doing wrong, genius' voice." That'd make ME the substitute humanoid.
Well, you know, if the villain has utterly and thoroughly disabled a hero's escape, no idiocy or obvious errors that a child could pick out, that's where they've won my respect... and if I like/empathize with the protagonist, fear for their life. Kind of like this picture, I presume?
