This here is a bust for the legendary silverback Matze, who was the silverback of the gorillas in the Frankfurt zoo for several decades and was also the most fertile male gorilla in captivity. He was father of 18 children and died in August 2008 at the age of 51 (I wrote about it in my LJ: http://wolfman-al.livejournal.com/55580.html ). He was very popular here in Frankfurt so this beautyfull little monument was build in his honour in front of the new ape house of the Frankfurt zoo. I like it very much because it catches the majesty and silent decency Matze had.

Originally I wanted to take pictures in the ape house too, but I didn´t because it depressed the hell out of me. Not the house itself, its beautyfull, the Bonobos, Orang Utans and Gorillas have large green enclosures in which they can hide at anytime from the visitors and each other, no, it where the primates on MY side of the glass that where horrible. Those dumb, ignorant hicks and jocks, grimassing and mocking the apes who were looking back at them with an expression that I would like to interprete as pity and disgust. Seriously, isn´t it depressing when you are ashamed of your own species infront of an Orang Utan? If your fellow human beeings show less dignity and grace than any Bonobo?
