A few of my former jobs, I went back to visit.

That isn't to say the guards at a few of them don't have orders to shoot-to-kill on sight...

You know, as I've read this comic over the years, it suddenly hit me. The area of Poland that this story takes place in is now in Belarus.

That's right! One of the reasons I chose this setting was its transience--it's a vanished place, in some ways. Emphasizing the tragic pointlessness of the KOP in the end.

I love to learn about the history of different regions of the world. For example, I didn't know until relatively recently that Poland once stretched from the Baltic to the Black sea. (I know. It was the Polish-Lithuanian union or something like that but, that was a rather large area to cover.) Or that Finland only became an independent country in 1918. But, I believe the strangest thing that I've learned is that Bulgaria has been in three different locations in eastern Europe in its history.

I did not know that about Bulgaria!

I saw it on a YouTube video recently. Supposedly, originally, it existed in or near present-day Ukraine then, after that area was invaded and the people displaced, they moved to near the Urals. Then, that area was invaded and they moved to present-day Bulgaria. I could be wrong but I do believe that's what was in the video.
