Side Note1: Dual Monster Monday and Last Saucer beast of this Grendizer batch that appear from Ep.31 to 50. By the time I post this, I would be well ahead doing as much of the Kotetsu Jeeg Haniwa Phantoms from Ep.21 to 30 (11 Phantoms total - Ep.29 has two), and will re-continue with the next 10EPs. Batch of Saucer Beasts after that.
Fubi Fubi was a monster of the week that appears in the halfway point of Ep. 50 of the Grendizer Anime, and was your typical humanoid standard Saucer Beast, as well was Maria's first kill of the series. It's color scheme was Green, Orange, Purple and Black, with spikes on its head. It's main weapons were a laser beam from its top spikes, missiles in its left fore arm, a propeller blade on the back for flight, as well throw like a shuriken, and held a battle staff with black spheres at each end, one with spikes which emits energy, the others with indentations on its surface, which discharge fire. Its green and purple saucer mode was a standard flat saucer with a purple pyramid like structure on front.
The Episode starts with a Motorcycle race between Koji and Maria, which is briefly stop by her rebuke of his praises of driving skills (been a tomboy) and Koji (been Koji), who was trying to be nice for been Duke's sister, takes offense and goes all the way to beat her in their game all the way to the Space Center; skidding edges and jumping cliffs (because why da hell not?). At one point Maria making a spin jump with her motorcycle, that distracts Koji. They make it all the way to the base, with Koji winning the race, though the two still at the best of term. Meanwhile, Duke asks Umon that Maria be allowed in the team to fill out the position of Spazer Pilot, much to Professor's misgivings due to her age, though he allows it, and Maria is put to training immediately. She aces the training, though Duke reminds her not to be arrogant after making a snarky comment to Hikaru.
Side Note 2: Learning she was 14 years old was an actual surprise to me. She almost looks to be as same age as Hikaru, who at the start of the series is 17, now would be 19 when she becomes a pilot – WTF? Also, how she ace her training has a story plot attached to it that comes out of left field and makes my rant the last time around even more furious.
On Skull Moon Base, Vega makes study of their predicament (NOT knowing of Maria, yet) and Gandal sends out three assassins to kill Koji – triplets with different color palettes; green, lavender (leader) and yellow – and the three take off for Earth. Meanwhile, Koji trains for a horse Race which will be held in the farm and Maria decides to participate and asks Dambei to let her (despite she been clear she has never ride a horse) he allows her to have a horse, and picks Wakaba, a mare that come 2nd to Koji's Dibashiro. Maria rides Wakaba, like a pro, surprising Dambei.
Side Note 3: I know what you'll say – "Mary Sue", But oh nononono-NO! .... Its much worst and it will irk a lot, which makes her plot in Ep.49 an even bigger plot hole that it needed to be, but forgivable since this episode was good and compensated for the lackluster 2nd plot in the previous.
As rain hits the area, the assassins land and move to eliminate Koji, while their masters on the moon prepare Fubi Fubi (his first scene in the episode – the Assassination plot takes most of the episode. At dinner, the group learns surprise or Maria's sudden capability to ride a horse – and this is where she shows in giving milk to Duke and toast to Koji before they even thought of it, much to her own credulous on the matter. The group then takes for the night, allowing the assassins to sneak into the house for the strike, breaking into the room and shooting at Koji and Duke, only to learn these are decoys; the two jump and fight the assassins, one of them been killed as Duke pushes her to block a shot meant for Koji, the other two retreat. Maria comes out of the closet, having warn the others of the impending attack, still not knowing herself how she knew. The assassins then move to put a bomb his saddle before the Horse race.
Despite Duke's warning to not participate, Koji still does, and so does Maria, the group keeping an eye on the crowd, the assassins hiding among them. As the race starts, Lavender presses the timer; Maria then has a vision of Koji dying and she tries to warn. She jumps from her horse to Koji's, pushes him (he falling onto rocks and getting hurt) while Maria throws the device up in the air where it goes off, with the crowd panicking and running away, Maria and the others running towards him. The Assassins try to gun down Koji but he is taken out of the way on time and Maria rides Wakada after the assassins, cornering them at the edge of the cliff and PUSHING THEM OVER (Me like Maria). The Assassins call for Fubi Fubi before exploding on impacting. Fubi Fubi is launch and detected upon entry, Duke takes off on Grendizer to fight it. While a wounded Koji asks Hikaru to take Double Spazer to assist, Maria outruns her and flies the Spazer to assist her brother.
Side Note 4: I was really surprise about this part, cause she trained for the Drill Spazer in the Simulation Chamber.
Over the city, Grendizer intercepts Fubi and they take their fight from the sky to the docks, but the Beasts fast prowess overpowers Grendizer; in that moment the Double Spazer arrives and (in a funny moment I must add where Maria's powers kick in again, Duke Confuses her with Hikaru) she shots the beast with Cyclone Beam. She distracts the Beast long enough to allow Duke to take off for a combination cross, though the beast blocks their attempt, he is then his again back to the docks.
Grendizer then grabs a ship's anchor and chain and locks with the Beasts weapon, pulling it over and onto the ground, using the anchor to cut the right leg. The beast then attempts to fly away, Duke follows; Fubi tries to stop him with the 2nd Ball on its staff which flies like a fireball; Duke disposes of this with Screw Punch. Fubi fires missiles, which bring Grendizer down, though Duke uses to spin the anchor and chain to fly (not joking) and then locks it with the spike sphere and chain; he breaks it and throws it at the beast as it fires an energy beam, hitting it on the head. Maria comes in and finishes the beast with Double Cutter.
Later, Duke explains to the others of Maria's abilities, as one in one hundred girls in Fleed are capable of foreseeing things before they happened, though she has no control of these nor do they often work. While the others express amazement, Maria despises her powers and runs off, ridding Wakada, desiring to be a normal girl.
Side Note 5: Okay, personal opinion – like I said on my previous point, this is a really good Episode and compensates for the lack lusting secondary plot seen in the previous one, but if you are going to write in that she has the ability to foresee the future in the episode after her introduction why not give a hint of it in Ep.49?
I mean, when they were discussing this in the writers room they must've realize the plot holes this would cause?
Why didn't these kicked in to save her uncle? Why Didn't they kicked in when Fighting Duke, so she would had learn of her relations to him without the need of almost been shot by Koji while storming the damn base? Fleedians seems to be born with abilities that they forget or ignore (Duke's Double/X-Ray/Vision which only happens ONCE, back in Ep.10? Cause I didn't forget). Oh well, at least she runs as fast as Duke, GEESH!!
Okay, that's my rant XD
