The Dark Tower is a series of books written by Stephen King about a gunslinger who travels through a creepy future world that's so far in the future that it's fallen apart and turned into the wild west/dark ages.
Roland, the gunslinger, uses his improbable aiming skills to pick fights with horrible flesh bots, mutants, giant bears, and poisonous talking lobsters. All the while he travels through time and dimensions trying to find the center of the universe, the Dark Tower, because apparently the universe is coming apart at the seems and inhuman extradimensional horrors are seeping in.
Basically if Clint Eastwood were put into a combination Lovecraft/Tolkein novel.
