Virmir is a powerful fire mage. As a trickster sorceress, Jinx loves nothing more than to get the better of powerful, arrogant people, and Virmir's legendary ego seemed like an attractive target. She may have bit off more than she can chew, however; Virmir's been transformed so many times that he's learned how to throw fireballs as long as he still has hands. In a couple seconds, Jinx might just learn the flaws of a going at him head-on.
That first line: "Hello, sir or madam" still kills me every time.
I've been wanting to see a meeting between Jinx and Virmir for a while and I finally got around to getting it done. Virmir's line art always provides interesting challenges to color. He has some very unique elements in his line art that are difficult to translate into my vector art style. This is the first time I've colored a sequence from him. He drew a partial background in the first panel, which is not a serious problem in black and white lines, but where vector art demands complete shapes, I had to come up with a way to do it that preserved his style. I decided to go a bit abstract with it and just have the background fade out of the panel, then be fading back in in the last panel. Tiny newt Virmir was also difficult to draw because the lines were so small. It doesn't help that only AFTER I finished the first pass did I realize that I'd drawn it on the smaller sized version of hte pic, where the lines were blurrier from low resolution. Fortunately, I've gotten into the habit of setting the lines to scale when the pic is resized, so I transferred it to the larger sized image, scaled it up to match and redid some of the lines on Vir without too much difficulty.
The "witch light" is another idea I've had on my mind for a while. It's based on something from an episode of the Little Mermaid cartoon, where Ursula got her hands on a magic stone that could turn people into worms if she focused its light. She fashioned a kind of lantern to focus it and managed to transform most of the principle cast of the show before an obnoxious one-off character (voiced by Mark Hamil) tricked her into destroying the stone in a pretty cliche manner, which immediately reverses the spell. It's about as lame as it sounds, even more so because the whole transformation plot takes a back-seat as the B story to this obnoxious one-off's A story. I liked the idea of the magic lantern that transforms anyone it shines on, though, so I decided to go with it.
Overall, I think it came out pretty well. Everybody I've been sharing the updates with comments that Virmir draws Jinx in a really cute way, and I agree. Everybody seems to really like this outfit, too, which is not her usual one. I decided to go with her outfit from the witchtober pic I did, where she was fully dressing up like a witch. It seemed a bit more professional if she was going to pretend to be a door-to-door saleswoman. A *little* more professional, anyway. I mean, Jinx does have to be true to herself to some degree, right? That's what Disney keeps banging on about.

I'm actually imagining that the immediate aftermath of this sequence goes something like this: https://youtu.be/C8yC02d7UZY?t=526
With Jinx as Picollo, and instead of a gun, it's you throwing tiny fireballs.
