A cloud of dust and stone followed the ground-shaking crash as Cain's hulking form tumbled through the ruins of a stone wall, the sudden hole causing the ancient structure to collapse as the earth dragon picked himself up, giving a shake to dislodge the debris from his scales as he looked up to see his attacker moving through that cloud towards him. Cain's lip curled in a rage, blood running down his face from beneath one of his eyes, teeth clenched as he lowered his head, shoving his impossible mass forward to ram into his opponent, a dragon even larger in scale than he, though they seemed less bulky, at the least. The tell-tale sound of a falling tree filled the hills, a casualty of their fight. Cain slammed into the other brown-scaled dragon, tackling them firmly onto the ground before slamming a fist down atop their skull, bouncing their head off of the soil from the force of it. More than enough to down any smaller dragon, this foe seemed unphased, worming their bulk free of the pinning, rearing onto their hind legs to gather up that recently felled tree in their hands, raising it high and bringing it down with force over Cain's head and horns, leveling the elder brown, flat onto his belly on the earth.
It was only an instant before he began to press himself to a stand, though the other brown didn't miss a beat, lifting that tree again and beginning to wail on the downed dragon, horrible cracks sounding as the wood began to splinter with each successive blow, sending leaves and chunks of recently-living tree in all directions. Cain continued to try and press himself to a stand amidst the assault, collapsing with each successive blow until the integrity of the tree was no more, reduced to pieces in the other dragon's grip with the last blow it dealt. As though the beating had been only an inconvenience, Cain suddenly shoved himself to a stand, tackling the other, upright earth dragon once more to the ground with a roar, slamming them to the earth hard before the pair began to roll towards a cliffside, entwined duo tumbling down the rocky mountainside towards the trees below.
A pair of observers stood silently, watching as the two earth dragons tumbled off the cliff, listening to the sounds of their growls and grunts, along with the sound of their scales slamming off stone on their trip down the hill, the ruckus growing more and more faint the further they tumbled.
"Should... should we intervene...?" one of the observers asked the other, still a bit dumbstruck by the sudden, explosive violence.
"By all means, feel free to get in the middle of THAT, if you like. I think I'll wait for them to tire themselves out."
"Aren't you worried they'll kill one another...?"
"As if the world would be so lucky. Earth dragons are more sturdy than that. If I had to guess, this is more of a traditional greeting amongst their kind. An exhibition, or test of strength between siblings. Just imagine how Cain or Kaira would treat an earth dragon that wasn't their twin..."
A completely badass and awesome headshot from the constantly amazing
Hiryu Please give them a look, they do stellar work!
Cain is one of those dragons that comes out VERY differently by so many different artists, and though some of them aren't quite how I see the old brown, Natsu seemed to know exactly what my grumpy, boxy-snouted beast is all about. Rage, anger, and a general grump, it's not uncommon to see him in a fit of fury, like this. It is uncommon, however, to be the cause of such fury, more than once. Really love this piece. I darkened up the browns a bit, with the artist's, blessing, so if you see a more orange version out in the wilds, that's why.
