I just finished bending these and throwing them in the mold. I will be uploading more pics to a flickr gallery soon with a more detailed description.
i bent these sides by hand using a borrowed professional bending iron and a spray bottle filled with water. As the sides dry out and cool down in this mold they will take the shape of it better. Tomorrow I will glue in a neck and tail block as well as kerfing and side strips. Once all thats done I'll be ready to glue on the top and back plates.

Well these aren't flawless. there are some light scorches and a wrinkle or two I will have to sand out but they should be passable. I will still likely be keeping this instrument rather than trying to sell is since there are likely to be one or two things wrong with it. I'm using some methods not common to typical uke building so there's likely to be some R&D yet to do.
Yeah, I have a little flush cut saw I will be using for that, but you need to give the wood time to relax back to its natural size before doing that other wise you might cut then too short. Im hoping to be able to join these ends neatly without the need for a "wedge" or "seem strip" which means doing some routing. If not *shrug*. At least I now have a router for doing that. I will have to make a jig and get some double stick tape though.
