NO, IT'S NOT RAINING BLOOD, DAMMIT!!
I've seen this here in Tucson during the monsoon season at sunset: both the clouds & rain look like they're on fire. It's a breathtaking sight.
All DOPR asked was that I depict him in flight. I leave it to the viewer to determine what DOPR is doing. Maybe he's calling to a far-off wing-brother, or just expressing his appreciation of the view.
I know that DOPR stands out too much; I should have put more red in the wings to reflect the clouds & setting sun, etc. But the watercolor paper was really beginning to warp, and I was worried that I was going to screw it all up if I kept futzing with it. For the most part I'm pretty happy with how it turned out.
DOPR5 had been exceedingly patient in waiting for this. He also generously allowed me to use his artswap to experiment on, since I literally haven't used watercolors in decades.
I consider the watercolors I used substandard, but it's all I could afford. I used both tube-pigment for the majority of it, and pencils for what blue can be seen. I seriously need a smaller brush, too.
