Patreon Activity - February 2021
As I did the end of month summary for my work, I put together the Patreon collections of finished and sketch pictures, and the total came to 27 unique pictures. That made for nearly one picture every day. With how I post, I post everything on a 1 to 1 basis. So when one finished or sketch picture goes up on Patreon, a respective equivalent goes up on FurAffinity/Twitter.
That was a LOT of content I outputted for the month. @.@ Could you tell for the first time in 8 years I was straight up bed ridden with a sickness during that course? Probably not! I kept it pretty quiet with only people on Discord or people that came to my streams hearing of it. Thankfully I was mostly over it in 48 hours and it overlapped with Hellday (the newspaper job Tuesday/Wednesday), a period I’m usually unable to work on art anyways.
The work produced and is in progress this month signifies I think a new era for my work is starting to unfold. I feel very comfortable now doing different time of day skies that I don’t really think much of it when I decided to do them. And in reality, as a traditional artist, it actually helps me to do sunsets and sunrises because that spreads my workload across other pencil instead of the usual sky blues.
Another new thing is I bought a package of Prismacolor Grey markers of various shades to replace my first marker that expired. I didn’t need the different shades but I decided I can make use of them by applying them to other shades of graphite than just black when I do graphite/hybrid work.
The final picture posted of the month was a picture featuring 6 characters in it, all on a tiny ¼ page paper. The picture is amazing, one of the best I ever did, but part of me is heartbroken over some features of it that just didn’t work. Doing facial expressions in colored pencil is extremely difficult and the faces of the character, especially one of the star figures Ivoria the Alolan Ninetales I struggled to make work.
I am planning in March or the next couple months to really double down on what I can do to improve facial expressions in colored pencil. I have some plans on how to do it, to use my tools a little smarter and in ways I’ve historically been too stingy to do.
The vast quality of improvement you all have seen in my work in the last year is largely because I’ve been using the tools I already have better. I have not made a true capital investment in art supplies in over 10 years.
Yet another new thing done this month was my first “comic” of sort, or at least the first true comic page layout which I did for the growth poll winner topic. It shows promise that I might be able to do more story telling in pictures itself, rather than just text descriptions on pictures.
More big things await in March, look forward to that! I have set a deadline for the first “Big One” of the year to be finished in March, so I hope I can keep to that goal. @.@’
The theme for most of the doodles this month was having characters dealing with the cold, either through activities or dressing up!
