When magic first came to the land, the animals were the first to know its effects. Their minds and bodies became hominid in shape and form, becoming what are now known as "the Ferfolk". Though all living beings in Terrinthia now generate magic from their bodies, a few learned to actually control and harness that magical energy, becoming the first sorcerers known to Terrinthia.
Karkus was one of those sorcerers, and is one of the most respected and accomplished magic-user known to Ferfolk kind and many others. His body is able to take whatever shape he wants, though he mostly creates wings and hands for simplicity's sake. Karkus can even turn his limbs into weapons, though he is retired from warlockery and refuses to use his skills for violence. Like many sorcerers, he lives a secluded life in the seaside mining town of Hoor Moc.
He adopted the young flamingo Kony when she was barely three, taking her under both his physical and metaphorical wing as his apprentice.
