Commentary:
I haven't gotten to explain Degyls much, but it hasn't been to important to the story, so I've mostly just been letting their existence speak for themselves. I pretty much made them up so people would have a creature to ride on for travel, as horses are already a potential Fugaian, and I'd rather not have feral and anthros of both species in the same world.
One thing I had in mind for them is that most of the ones used for riding are female, as the males are very spikey and aggressive. No, I haven't drawn any male ones yet. All the samurais in Rion's group have a female Degyl.
