Duel Masters: Sempai Legends
A week ago we beat Duel Masters: Sempai Legends for the GBA on stream. Yes that is in fact its name. Spelling error and all. Honestly? Horrible title. Had absolutely no content past the card game (which was a watered down version of Magic: The Gathering so they can sell it to regions that it was too complicated in.) When I say thats the only content, I really really mean it. The stores work in card games, the progression is only card games, the story is card games, the everything is all card games. The story was absolutely nonexistent and nonsensical when its there. The enemy AI is easily exploitable. And the worst part? There's actually a racial stereotype of a Gypsy woman as one of the only "characters" in the game.
All that aside I strangely enjoyed my time playing it? Maybe it was the excuse to chat with stream while I idly farmed reputation so I can do the next tournament. Maybe it was that the sprite art was so bad that you couldn't tell if someone was proud for having crapped their pants leading into the battle. Maybe it was just that we all agreed it was bad and got to have a bit of fun with the experience. No idea. But I will say one thing. If you have any interest in making games, go play this one. Not even joking. Go either pick up a copy of the game or get an emulator and actually beat it all the way through. The missteps in game design were so massive and obvious that its clear they just didn't have even half the time they needed to make it under contract. You WILL learn something from playing it trust me. You can tell they really earnestly tried their best but they just couldn't get most of the game made how they wanted it to be. Damn shame but not every title gets all the time it requires...
Next in the game series is "A Short Hike." A game where you climb a mountain to get better cell signal to check in on your mother. I expect this to be a fun jaunt and overall wholesome. Stop on by and chat if you want to experience it with us~ https://www.twitch.tv/zaezar
