A few months ago, I started downloading a bunch of custom brushes to potentially use in future pieces. I haven't really used most of them, but I had some fun trying out a lot of them, and who knows; maybe sometime down the line I'll use a few of them again for detailing etc.
While I was having fun with those brushes, though, I ended up in one of my very rare fan art moods. I found an oriental-style ink brush, and things just went from there; Okami was a good fit for it, I think. I don't know if it makes sense to anyone but me, but the shield that Amaterasu carries through the game always seemed to me like a symbol for the sun; so that's why the sun is against her back here.
