Surely you must have stopped to think, not only about Sonic, but also about several characters, why they wear white gloves. I admit that I have also questioned that.
But the answer would be a matter of contrast, perspective and limitation.
In the first cartoons of Mickey, those of Black and White of the 20s and 30s, he did not have white gloves, so he confused the position of the hand in the drawing, since the character is all black.
With the white and rounded gloves, it facilitated the understanding of the position and the contrast of the fingers, besides being faster than drawing than a hand unrelated to human anatomy, full of details, having to be repeated SEVERAL times to obtain a nice result .
The same thing happened with games, especially in the age of 8 and 32 bits.
A curiosity:
I've seen an episode of Goofy where he accidentally takes off his glove while fighting a frog, and oddly enough: the color of Goofy's hand is similar to that of human skin, unlike Mickey's first drawing, of black hand. Now we just need to explain why Goofy is humanized and Pluto is not. There are already five hundred ...
