This is the alternator used for (probably) 36v DC power for the caboose.

Barber-Bettendorf trucks.

i don't know the voltage either, but yes, the lights, and all important communications uhf radio. it does look hefty enough to run a microwave or at least an electric frypan, and there might have been some kind of a little refrigerator too.
