"VOS"
2006
The album's theme was supposed to basically be an odd little theme-concept album (as opposed to narrative ones, such as The Wall, or Tommy) based around opposing forces. Daybreak, Dusk; Order, Chaos; Honesty, Lies (It’s like Yin and Yang!)... It took me 2 days to think up and record about two thirds of the disc, two months or so later I did the rest.
I mention Acts, and the filler songs used as act-splitters, in the descriptions. I suppose one could prospectively title the acts as: I- Morning, II- Day, III- Nighttime. But that’s only if you want to interpret it as such.
Let me say that I suppose what I was aiming for here was closer to prowess in concept and conception, rather than prowess in technique and playing (although that’s good too (But my general habit is to have ‘excellence’ in conception but often barely mediocre production of anything)).
Notes like these were not included, and probably simply won't be included simply because I do like the idea of the “artful ambiguity”. Although I could've possibly been too ambiguous here. Then again, I find that the general intention seems pretty simple. So maybe I'll at least make some of the layout simpler for a prospective second-run.
1. Daybreak: This one is the first written, spawned from a mistake on a chord. It is also one of the only ones that was written fully before recording (most were at least partially improvised).
