This is my first cap and I don't have a cap hoop, that's why the design isn't centered. I tried.
I will be wearing this hat in the SF Pride parade this Sunday. It is purple because that is the 'official' color of the asexual community, and it has a letter A on fire because I am Flamin' A, baby! :D

Pride is the wrong word.
You should be proud of something you work for, not something that you just "have", or started out with. Why would you be proud to be born into a rich family? It would make more sense to be proud of making yourself rich.
I think the community has no idea what the fuck the word 'pride' means.
Hm...That being said, it doesn't mean you shouldn't be ashamed of what you are. :p

A lot of people do feel ashamed though, because society and sometimes their own family makes them feel ashamed...makes them feel as if they're sinners or bad people. Just look at the recent increase in teenagers being harassed because they're gay...and I'm sure you've seen the news about what the result often is. I feel this is the reason they use the word "pride". To let people know there's nothing "wrong" with them and they shouldn't feel ashamed, that they're good people and need to be proud of that fact.
PS: maybe once the world evolves and we as a society stop degrading those who are different, people won't feel the need to form "pride" or support groups because they feel so outcast. In a world where society accept everyone as an equal. I feel it won't be too much longer...although you'll always have the fanatics and the haters.
Once the world evolves?
Most of the world has evolved.
It's the shitty ass countries like the United States that are so fucked up, they have a hard time accepting differences.
Christ, I'd hate to be from a horrid country that treats their citizens like shit.
I still think pride is the wrong word.

Yeah, the United States is pretty damn horrible. I'm an American and I totally agree with you there. :\ We're behind on a lot of things, especially when it comes to issues that concerning equality...and moral issues in general, for that matter. Still, progress is being made, slowly. There was just a victory in New York today, in fact. Gay marriage is now legal there. Another state evolves. Like I said it's slow progress, but progress nonetheless.
In the meantime, we have haters left and right. Religious fanatics who'll spit on you (sometimes literally) and kids who don't feel like they can continue in such a world. I think whatever word might keep someone from hurting themselves is fine...nothing wrong with having pride in yourself when it feels like the rest of the world is taking a dump on you.

I fully agree with this; I am not ashamed of being asexual, but I'm not proud of it either, any more than I'm proud of my shoe size.
And though I have nothing against the LGBT community, I don't consider myself part of it. I don't need any representation, but thanks anyway.

The triangle is black white and grey but the color is purple. I dunno.
And asexuality is an orientation, not a choice to simply not have sex. Asexuals have sex all the time; the definition of asexuality is simply not being sexually attracted to anyone, it has nothing to do with whether you actually have sex or not.

So a man who swears off sexual relations with others for financial or religious reasons but still masturbates with enough frequency that he has more "sex" than either member of a married couple could still be considered asexual. And since I don't have a girlfriend because I feel they're too expensive, I guess that must mean I'm asexual.
Any wonder why so many people who have taken such vows end up molesting little kids? Not saying they all do of course, but you sure hear it a lot...sad as it is. You don't have to be asexual to be religious and follow strict beliefs. In most cases those types of people are fighting their natural urges for the sake of something they see as more important, their religion. It doesn't make them asexual...although some of them very well might be, who's to say.
I didn't say that the ones who did those horrible things to little children should be considered asexuals; they obviously aren't.
On a related note, any man who has been castrated or women who have undergone female circumcision, are automatically asexual, their methods of initiating and enjoying sex taken away from them.

Gender identity is arguably more important in pronoun use than physiology, even ignoring the variety of other factors that indicate physical gender other than fertility. In addition, castration does not nessisarily eliminate the sex drive, merely reduce it significantly. There are other areas that produce the required hormones, albeit in lower quantities, and there is also the possibility of medical alteration such as supplements.
