Last year I got the idea to try doing quick strips with different funny or usual and unusual situations from my life. My main job is actually a whole bunch of different part-time jobs. One of them is assembling computers. Sometimes they ask me to help with the assembly and all that, to diagnose, blah blah blah. The first strip was done before the new year, when they brought me an old faulty computer. They said that nothing works and that we need to make it work. When I turned it on for the first time, nothing worked and I tried to install my test power supply. This is the first time I've seen such a large flame spewed out by a motherboard. So much so that he even decided to perpetuate this random event.
PS: I have not yet decided where it is better to publish such quick drawings, so I will publish the first strips on FA and in Twitter.
And also, as soon as my stitches are removed, then I think to arrange discounts for comms or something like that. I think this will happen around mid-February.

Fortunately, this was not my computer. But I hope that I will no longer dodge the burning bits flying in my direction. Probably, it was necessary to choose more dynamic angles, I already presented it almost like shots from an action movie. :P
Btw, I often hear feedback that MSI has already started making good motherboards.

Bought a mobo about 20 years ago and tried to slap Linux on it. It would freeze hard on cold start, but work fine afterwards. I bet Windows would have the same problem.
Tried to get support for it, and the response was "Use Windows." For something that didn't say it supported anything.
Yeah. Just don't use MSI.

Oh, that's easy. ASUS/Pegatron, EVGA, ASRock, Gigabyte, PNY, ZOTAC for mobos and GPUs. Fractal Design has good cases.
Laptops? ASUS, Acer, Dell/Alienware, Lenovo (but be picky). Don't get a Chromebook unless it's old, unsupported, and you're turning it into a Linux laptop. If you're forced to get HP, get a backup solution in place ASAP -- I hear that HP tech support is crap.
Pre-built desktops? Dell/Alienware. HP's only good if you're buying for a business.
Above all, Google around for reviews, even ones on YouTube.

Hee-hee, when I worked in a company, we had old ancient computers on which there was no-name hardware, which was useless even to search in google. Now things seem to be better, and recently, instead of such servers, full-fledged registrars are used. Basically, my part-time jobs are in the installation of security and fire alarms. But sometimes they bring ordinary office computers, or ask to assemble something more interesting and playful, but this does not happen so often.
I think my best was an early motherboard with built-in video, where you had to connect a ribbon cable to the back-plate. It turned out you could plug it in backwards.
When I powered it on, the ribbon cable glowed bright orange like an electric fire, which made me wonder if I was dreaming for a few seconds. Then it filled the room with smoke. Incredibly, the rest of the computer worked afterwards, though we had to fit a graphics card because the onboard video chip had melted. The computer was a spare one that belonged to my father. He was not pleased.

Wow, I don't even remember those cables.
I wouldn't use such a computer just in case.
I was once given two faulty computers, since the owner did not understand hardware. So, the oldest of them, on Sata 1, is with me simply because there were faulty hard drives and one of the components on the motherboard fell off. I don't remember which one, a small semiconductor, maybe a capacitor or something like that. The computer is already an ancient evil and any calculator is faster, well, and I just feel sorry for the hard drive if something happens to it. I tried to run it and everything seems to work. Except for two old hard drives. : P So this computer is now by my bed like a bedside table for my lamp, lol.

Heh. At the time we figured sure the monitor was responsible, since it was an old CRT one, and very cheap, so possibly lacking protection circuits. Looking at the VGA pinout, sometimes pin 9 can carry 5v - if so, that would have been shorted to ground, assuming the pins were exactly reversed. Not one of my finest moments!
