I put a lot of thought into how to translate sheet music dynamics instructions into absolute loudness levels of chiptune notes. This can be complicated by the fact that Chopin sheet music dynamics don't always appear to be mathematically consistent across an entire piano piece. For example, in some pieces, a section of "f" (forte) loudness can have occasional crescendo instructions, but then more "f" instructions that are not preceded by a corresponding diminuendo instruction, in a place where abrupt changes in loudness may not seem appropriate. So, in my judgment, a lot of dynamics seem to be up to personal interpretation. Sometimes I wonder if this was intentional, by allowing the same piece of music to take on a whole new personality based on a different performer's interpretation of its instructions.
