Incoherent screaming filled the chamber.
The hobbled shape of the thing was vaguely anthropomorphic, but they had only a second to realize this before it was upon them. Ghastly and emaciated arms ending in long, bloodstained claws raked at them with an almost feral abandon. The magician erupted in a fountain of blood, pages flying from his shredded tome. To be fair, this was usually how he began combat.
Another one! It faceless visage twisted into a rictus grin - more a display of teeth than any semblance of warmth or joy. Like the other pallid aberration it moved not by running, but by bodily wretching in a way that somehow locomote it forward.
The silent and staid monk tightens his paws into fists as the air around him chills. Strangely, the monsters seem entirely oblivious to him. They sense the cold, but not what's causing it. A complex rhythm of wooden clicks issue from their mouths - perhaps a form of radar or communication?
Quietly, the party moves around the circumference of the room. They inch along the walls, nearer to the arched exit, until the horrifying gargoyles are some safe distance behind them.
"Oi!!!" Comes a sudden, booming voice from behind them, "I think they're blind! They find you with SOUND!"
Even eyeless, both of the sinister things turn their gaze upon that sound, charging claws-first into a small animal with long ears.
"Goddamnit, Alexsandre..."
The party hurries on to the next room. After a few moments, they hear ominous, squelching footsteps approaching from the direction of the chamber.
"Haaaaaahahaahah! Should'a been there! Snapped 'em like BONES! Ya missed all the FUN! Glad ter see ya got out alright! ONWARD!!"
An awesome, unexpected gift from one of the other players in our tabletop campaign. Set in a roughly Bloodborne type dark fantasy world, our heroes have come together to explore a walled countryside afflicted by an ancient curse. The furries of this world go by 'Zootopia rules', which is to say that snow leopards and lions are a lot bigger than jackrabbits or mice.
My character is Alexsandre Ibrahim, an impossibly strong Paladin/Berserker hybrid wielding a mythic sword more than twice his size. Although he's shorter than pretty much everyone they meet, it doesn't seem like anyone ever told him that! He's more than happy to pick a fight with bigger furs and monsters that could gobble him up in one snap!
Big things come in small packages, and we're not just talking about his outsized personality! XD
