It was a simpler time, when--with proper authorization--one could get up close to some high-performance military aircraft. Such as the Northrop T-38 Talon of the U.S. Air Force Aerial Demonstration Team--The Thunderbirds!
This shot was actually taken in June of 1975 at the former Tri-City Airport near Freeland, Michigan where the Thunderbirds performed each year until about the early 1980s. They would perform at Wurtsmith AFB near Oscoda the very next week. That's my CAP unit commander at the photo was made by his wife at the time.
