Here we are with the official first of the new arc 'The Search for Others.' As Whitescar begins her search for other superheroes and mysteries start to develop around her. Will she be able to find any anytime soon? And just who is this 'Lady' she overheard being mentioned?
First post of 2021. Don't think anyone here is surprised it's more Neolythia. I'm trying to get some more out so I'm not working on this arc as long as I did the first one.
Enjoy, and until next time where Warcat has her first experience at crime fighting as she has a run in with the Twins.

Fingers danced along the keyboard, buttons clicking soon taking over the silence that came as the music and the singer’s voice faded soon to be replaced by the station’s jingle and the commercials played. But the mare could not put too much thought into that as she leaned back and let out a sigh as she closed her eyes. ‘Still nothing’ Amynta thought, but she knew from the start this was going to like trying to find a needle in a haystack and with missing person reports that was very accurate. Moving the cursor she cleared the history of her search and pushed her away from the laptop Mr. Riccon was kind enough to let her use during the breaks. ‘Tomorrow’s another day.’
Walking over, she grabbed the broom that was propped up against the side of the counter, grabbed it and started to go back to sweeping the moment her break finished. Even though she worked there part time, Amynta didn’t want to slack off not to the good boss she had. A smile crossed her face as she hummed a soft tone, one she couldn’t quite remember where it came from but had taken up a habit of using it while she worked at the bakery.
Clark watched her for a few seconds before going back to the cashier as the door opened and he went to serve a new customer. The pine marten was a good boss as far as Amynta was concerned, even though granted he was the only boss she’s ever had. She was sure though not many would not only hire someone like her but also help set up a bank account for the pay to go into. Even though the lack of a birth certificate really was a problem, until she had manage to get help from Tessa. The Wild Dog had managed to hook her up with some documents, having said to that she needed some herself in ages past. Amynta tried to push for more information at the time, but had stopped it after a quick ‘You don’t need to know! Just… I don’t want to talk about it to someone I just met. I’ll inform Whitescar that I’ve aided you.’ That was only a week ago, but she was happy that she had some sort of identification now.
The next hour went by without much trouble, just the usual costumers and some new ones that came and went after their purchases or to ask for directions. Amynta worked hard, helping Mr. Riccon when he needed it while the bakers worked in the back. The mare was almost too wrapped up in her work to notice that her shift came to an end. “Hey, Amynta. Shifts over, good job today” the pine marten announced causing her to look up surprised before looking bashful.
“Oh, sorry sir.”
Clark just chuckled and shook his head, “It’s alright. I understand wanting to do a good job, but don’t work yourself too hard remember.”
“True, heh. I’ll try to keep that in mind” she replied as she rubbed the back of her head.
Walking pass the counter and into the back, she headed for the area the employee’s kept their things while they worked. Picking up her bag she paused as she listened to the radio for a bit as the news came on. “Authorities and Officials continue to debate on what to do with the self-proclaimed super-heroine, Whitescar. There is a small movement of those who say she should stay, while the opposition say she should step down or be locked up. The more sceptical of them continue their claims of this is all just a hoax to swindle the city out of money.” Amynta just shook her head at this, as she hoisted her bag up over her shoulders.
‘Still need to convince them I’m not a threat’ she thought about to head out.
“Meanwhile, reports still coming in from Albion of a theft. Authorities are still investigating but they conclude only one thing was stolen from the museum, an artefact known simply as the Amulet of Sekhmet. Guards report seeing two possibly rodents fleeing the scene being chased by lioness who is reported to have at least increased speed.” There was a pause followed by the sound of a button being pushed before the anchor continued, “An employee was found hidden within the building unharmed. Authorities are hoping she can give anything about the rodents or the lioness, but they don’t think she saw anything. The museum head is also confused on where this would be protector is. Some have speculate it could be a guardian of the Amulet of some kind… I know that sounds odd, but times do seem to be changing.”
As the weather announcements took over Amynta headed out, saying a final goodbye to Mr. Riccon. Outside she took in a deep breath before joining the crowd as they went about their afternoon, unaware of a strange fox with markings of some kind on the other side of the street, watching her and only her keenly. The woman herself being in deep thought as she thought back to what Tessa had told her when they first met. ‘If I’m the first of a second generation… why is it that people are surprised we exist?’ The Wild Dog had answers she was sure and one way or the other she planned on getting them.
Within the next hour she found herself in a library she found last week. After a small nod and a smile to the librarian, the mare made a beeline right for the non-fiction section as she started to glance over the titles of each book. Eventually she came across a section that had books detailing discoveries and important events in modern times and figured that these would be good for her to begin her research. After she picked one, the mare headed towards the nearest table and got to reading.
A quick scan of the contents page and she was already feeling a surge of disappointment, but she flipped the book open and started to read. About thirty minutes later and she had skipped a good chunk of the book, opting to just skim most of it instead choosing to focus on any keywords that might pop out on the pages. However she did get something as the word ‘superhero’ popped up, hope starting to rise as she read a bit located within the 1940s, but was just as quickly disappointed when it was just a general mention of superheroes starting to rise in popularity in comics and toys. And that was it, just a small bit in this book, barely a paragraph, as she quickly flipped through the rest and closed the book with a bit of a huff. ‘Maybe another one will have it’ she thought as she got up to grab a couple more.
The next hour passed as she rested her head against the table with a groan. Nothing, not even in the medical experiments on species like the Dragons, Unicorns or Kitsunes to try and find those powers during the last world war. Though this subject did make her blood run cold as she quickly skipped past it and other mentions of other ‘mythical’ species that suffered under these atrocities. Pushing the latest book aside she let out a small groan. Sure it was only three books at most she’d had looked through, taking good care to not skip anything that seemed remotely useful, but she was hoping to of at least come across something much quicker then her search through the missing people’s reports.
Her ear twitched as footsteps approached, as she glanced up a cat had come closer. A quick look at a name tag and she saw that he was a librarian here. “Excuse me, ma’am, but do you need help with anything?” he asked helpfully. Thinking it over a moment she gave a slight nod of her head turning to face him completely.
“Yes. I’ve been trying to see if they are anything on superheroes.”
He gave her a strange look, his long, slender tail twitched slightly. “Ma’am, if we got anything with superheroes in it. I’m sure you’d find them in the fiction area” he replied as he pointed towards that part of the library.
“I know. But I mean… Is there anything about real life superheroes? I’m not talking about any books written on Whitescar or by her, I got the feeling they wouldn’t even be thought of just yet, but surely she can’t be the first one. Even rumours?”
A sigh escaped his lips as he paused to think a bit. “Sorry ma’am the only thing we would have is a book about the history of ‘Fantastic Comics.’ It would be the only thing here in this section” he answered after a bit.
Amynta thought a bit on this, while it’s not what she was hoping for, maybe the writers or artists can list what had inspired them. She gave a return nod in response and a short, “Thank you”, before she got up, gathered up the books to replace them and start her search for it. ‘Even if I can just get a small bit, then maybe…’ she thought to herself as she started to look carefully at the bookshelves.
Later that night, the moon was in it’s waxing phase as a goat stumbled back as blue magical energy impacted him square in the torso. A thud was heard as Whitescar turned around, her cape sweeping behind her as she picked up the fallen handbag before handing it back to the ewe that had been mugged. “I’d suggest calling the cops, they would want to get him before the spell wears off” she said as she helped the other woman up to her hooves. After giving a shaky nod the phone was out and the police called. The heroine nodded and took one last look at the thug before she cast another spell disappearing in a flash of blue light, leaving the other woman staring at open air.
Up on a nearby rooftop that she had previously scouted, the unicorn-fox glanced down at the alley as she kept her eyes trained on the two of them. She didn’t truly know how long the stunners lasted. Luckily she didn’t have to wait too long as about five to ten minutes later the sound of sirens echoed from further up the street and came close with each passing second. The moment the police car came to a halt she turned and started to move across the roof tops. She had only gotten a few away before she ran into Tessa.
“Doing a good job out there. Think that’s like six criminals this week?” the Wild Dog said with a smirk.
“I wish it could be more then that. But… it’s a big city” Whitescar replied as she walked closer towards the other person. “Plus crime seems to be a bit more on the rise.”
“That’s the price for putting on that costume. Criminals get cocky thinking they’d be the one to get the bragging rights and will always want to take a shot at you.”
“You know, you sound like you know way more about this stuff then most anyone else does. What are you a fan of comics?” she said as she turned and looked out towards the city, seeing the glimmering lights shining as far as she could say.
“No. I just know, as said you aren’t the first to put the cape and leotards on” Tessa replied with a simple shrug. The look before her made her grin slightly, it would make for a great picture of the costumed woman standing there, her gaze cast out over the urban jungle. “You’ve got the look down right. You’re still green though, but hey everyone is when they start off no matter what their job is.”
None of them talked for the next few moments just letting the sound of the traffic and the wind greet the silence. Whitescar thought to herself over what she had learned in the library or rather, the lack of things as she looked back towards Tessa who walked over to join her. “About that...”
“Mmm?” she asked turning her head to look at her. “About what?”
“Just that. Me not being the first superhero, just the first of this generation. I’ve started to look through books in the library and I couldn’t find anything. No mentions about any like me, hell not even rumours!” Whitescar exclaimed before she took a deep breath and looked back down at the street, watching various species walking about, either going out, home or just enjoying a nice night. Her eyes looking over each she could make out trying to pick out any possible criminals, though part of her wondered how many of these people could be hiding powers like hers. “All I could find is just to do with a comic company. Nothing much sides them.”
“Books tend to be a good place to look, if you know what to look for. But you may not be able to find anything there. Nor on the internet.”
“Then why the mystery, why the riddle? Why can’t you tell me outright about this stuff?!”
“Whoa, chill there. Look honestly I just know these things… But I can’t tell you more then that, it’s honestly feels like there might be information there, but my own body is refusing to spit it out” she replied watching Whitescar’s tail twitch slightly in agitation. “I only know some things. Sides, it gives you something to try and discover. Well until next time, don’t worry next time we’ll get some training in” she replied with a grin.
“Or maybe we can talk a bit more… I’ve got questions I wouldn’t mind asking… Eh… Tessa?” the hybrid asked turning and saw that her request had fallen on deaf ears. The costumed woman was the only person on the top of the building now as she heard the faint sound of a wire and cloth sliding down it, but it was barely heard over the noise of the city street below. She heaved out a sigh as her shoulders sagged as she hoped just to have a talk with that Wild Dog for once. It would ease her mind a bit if she could talk to someone about this superheroing life or just talk at all, keep her SOME company.
She turned and started to climb down a nearby fire escape. Once on the ground she quickly cast her disguise spell as well as a few taps on the wrist device and in a few seconds Whitescar was gone and Amynta stood in her place. As she glanced around to make sure she wasn’t spotted she headed out onto the streets, hands in her pocket as she started to walk almost aimlessly to anyone who decided to watch her. But she figured the best way to get around the city and keep a look out for either crime or those in need of her help was this way. At least none of the criminals would run away before she could spot them.
About forty minutes later saw her paying for a snack, a sandwich from some chain, along with a bottle of water as she sat near the entrance and started to eat. Her grey furred ears twitched as customers entered and left as she overheard bits and pieces of conversations but not paying full attention to them. As she looked at her snack a thought did go through her head, ‘I need to have a proper meal for dinner… maybe tomorrow, don’t think I work tomorrow anyway.’
Taking a glance around, Amynta saw a table near her with two foxes sitting there. A red fox and a cross fox who seemed to be having a rather interesting chat if she could tell from their body language, but for her it wasn’t that important as she turned back to her food, pausing to take a drink from her bottle. She needed to get back out there, do a patrol of another part of the city before heading back to that cabin to sleep for a bit… she really needed a way to get around besides walking. Maybe the computer on the device or her spell book had a method that would make things easier.
As she finished up and moved from the table she passed the foxes and overheard parts of what they were say. Stuff that actually caught her attention as she walked to the bin closest to them to dump her rubbish so she could listen closer.
“I don’t know… the fact we got people running around in costumes now… I don’t think anyone could of seen this coming.”
“What about the Lady? You doubt her?”
“What?! No, not her. I know she’s got a good reason, and at least she was around before that hybrid.”
“Yeah… maybe Whitescar heard rumours?”
“I don’t know…anyway, I’ve gotten that name game if you want to….”
The conversation moved onto some video game the red fox had gotten, but the fact that these two knew of the existence of another like her gave Amynta hope! She could barely hide back the grin, oh how she wanted to thank these two for the lead but she didn’t want to appear rude to them as she picked up her water bottle and headed out of the door with a string in her step. She only just started her search and already there’s this!
‘Oh I hope it doesn’t take me too long to meet this ‘Lady’’ she thought to herself as she headed back to where she had decided to patrol for the night. Hope swelling up inside of her as several people glanced at her as she started to hum in excitement. Her mind filled with thoughts on what type of person this ‘Lady’ would be.
Having a possible new ally would help make the city a better place and perhaps a friend.
