Act 1-6
In the dead of night. The adventurers escaped the depths of the red robes hideout and returned to Phandalin through the streets. Something seemed to be going down at the mayor’s building as they approached cautiously. One of Thorton’s guards ushered them in at the back to avoid the crowd and lead them up into the mayor’s office. Halia Thorton stood in front of her desk staring out of the window down at the large group of red robes. She turned around to the sound of footsteps as Quallion and his companions entered her office.
‘’Is it done?’’ She asked, knowing the answer beforehand seeing as they were still alive.
Ash pulled out the glass cane and put it on her desk. She took hold of it, inspected it for a moment before she excused herself to them and walked back down to the first floor and joined the crowd surrounding her office and addressed the now unemployed bandits.
She raised the glass cane for all to see. ‘’Your leader has fallen as promised. You have all committed crimes inside this community and should be held accountable for such misdeeds. But I offer you a chance to submit to me and serve our fair town and its people. Assignments will be handed out tomorrow. For now, sleep, gather your belongings and vacate the mansion come morning. That is all for now.’’ She was about to turn back inside but then turned around to face the crowd again ‘’Oh, and don’t even think of skipping town unless you want a bounty on your heads. Good night.’’
Halia Thorton returned to her office, gave the glass cane back to the small warlock and sat down in her chair, elbows on the desk and fingers intertwined smiling with a satisfied look. ‘’You did well. You deserve a reward for your services to Phandalin. But first things first, have you found any... documents, journals or letters kept by larno Albrek, that is, the glass cane sorcerer? » she asked.
« We didn’t find anything besides a study full of books... » He surprised most of his own group; eyes darted towards him as a few eyebrows shot up momentarily. Quallion was seemingly gambling with this. Information was just as valuable as money and this sly old lady knew this quite well. She however didn’t know he was lying and accepted it as fact.
« Well that is a shame. On a side note, I heard you rescued some hostages from the mansion. » she diverted the conversation.
« Yeah, a woman and a child, I’m afraid we might have found her husband dead in the basement when we fought a creature under the control of the sorcerer. » Quallion admitted.
« I’m sure the grieving family will appreciate a generous donation from the church of Tyr to compensate their loss. » she continued, a tender smile hiding scrupulous intent. As she placed the reward the group was due to receive on her desk. She made a show of halving it and pushing the first half on the table towards the speechless cleric of Tyr.
Quallion pointed out meekly that she gained more than she initially thought she would get with the red robes having submitted to her, but her retort about sneaking into the lair of thieving bandits and most definitely walking out of there with an undisclosed amount of loot would have made it more than even for them. Quallion babble incomprehensibly before holding his head down shamefully for trying to put an argument against her words, anything he had to say more would sound selfish and betray his chrch. That didn’t stop all of his companions from glaring holes into him. Jamie couldn’t contain herself and stepped up passed Quallion, putting a hand on the desk harshly.
‘’Lady, I’m no priest of whichever church, I’m just following him to do a job, and get paid so I can have food and a roof at the end of the day, the mansion only had useless junk in it.’’ The rogue declared with irritation. Halia’s words had no effect on Jamie evidently.
The middle aged woman nodded with a smile and made sure to give the rogue the initial full amount, half the amount to everyone else exept Quallion’s share which Jamie was given.
‘’Again, I appreciate the great work you’ve all done for my people. You may retire for the night. I will be sure to call on you again if the need arises, you may do the same with me.’’ Said Halia Thornton before the group left the office, prompted by her bodyguards.
As everyone stepped outside, Ash tapped his newly acquired cane on the back of Quallion’s head to provoke a reaction out of him. ‘’Ow..What did you do that for?!’’
Ash grumbled ‘’what was all that back there? You let her walk all over you!’’ He echoed the sentiment of the group while they walked back to the tavern.
The bickering kept on through the night as they ate a meal and drank for a few. But soon enough everyone retired to their rooms after a long and exhausting day of hard work.
