Awesome truck! Now tell me how accurate I am. Okay, 4 wheel drive due to recovery hooks and locking hub cut outs. Front gill is all chrome, so its a after market grill. I'm guessing it is not a LX due to dully flair marker light. Possible XLT. Its Oxford white witch is not a common FX4 or Lariat color. Engine is a diesel, not a early 99.5 due to badge location. I can also rule out that it is not a late 1999.5 either. Cant read badge so, I assume its a 7.3L but cant be 100% with out a badge close up or hearing engine note. Also I'm not seeing the split color bumper that is common on trucks after the 2003 model year. My guess is 4X4 F350 dully with a 7.3L from 2000-2003, that has have been tastefully modified. That's the best I can do! You got your self a rare truck their! Even rarer if it has a 6 speed! Treat her well!
pretty good, and you could spot the FX4 decal, yep, oxford white and stock XLT package. Production date if I recall is 10/98 :) early 99 Ticked over 208 K miles lately. Automatic and well, ya know, its not bad with the later model 6.0 trans cooler. It must have come with the 53 element sprag clutch as its not autodestructed and is all original still.
Mine rolled over the 200K mark a couple of months ago! Now I'm at about 204,000 miles and still going strong. Original injectors, turbo, trans and HPOP none of which are weak, slip or have any play! Also, badge under the mirror and a early 99! Them are few and fare between! I have been looking into doing the trans cooler swap on my truck but they fetch $150 used and and any time I find one in a auto wrecker they want to sell me whole truck! Haha I gotta ask, any power adders or any plans? I'v been toying with the idea of getting that new Hydra chip. Heard they really transmission friendly and they don't run hot. Anyway, I don't want to chew your ear off about trucks! Their kinda what I do so I can go on way to long about them!
The issue with used coolers is anytime there is a 6.0 trans failure, a new cooler is required for warranty, I got my brandy new one for a good deal from Tousley Ford (mailorder) Opted for a brandy new one over used/unknown. I evac'd the AC system, put on a new reciever/dryer then swapped in the new cooler, refilled the AC system and off and running. I don't have any power mods, want to keep it running as long as possible, the 6.0 trans cooler dropped the trans temp 20 degrees across the board and even towing the dozer or backhoe it doesn't get up beyond 170 anymore. I have the defective 'grey' front pump seal that dribbles fluid when the temp exceeds 200F. It hasn't dribbled since the new cooler. I haven't thought about adding more zip cause the first change is a new exhaust and mine is all stainless factory and comletely rust free.
I found my transmission never really gets over 190 but I have hit 200 when I catch a red light at the bottom of a hill but that's with 14,000lbs or so. Thats also with a Obd 2 gauge and they are not the most accurate. My truck lived it whole life in the rust belt and my exhaust didn't make it. $200 and I got a new 4 inch one under her and I tossed a Banks muffler I got $30 for road manners. Seemed to pep it up a little, a$$ dyno tested. I know what you mean about not tossing good parts away.
I'm glad to say my truck doesn't leak. Had a drip from oil drain plug that blew back and made it look like a turbo pedestal/HPOP leak but it cleared up once I put a new gasket on it. Have some seepage on the transmission tail shaft but Im treating like a class 8 truck. If I don't see it drip than its not leaking.
I know what you mean about reliability and that's what been keeping me from mods for quite some time. But if I ever went for a chip would defiantly get a hold of a 6.0 cooler and a BTS valve body and some fancy fluid. That should keep the trans together for a little bit. If it does fail I can drop a manual into it. Did it to my friends truck in the road side parking spot at his apartment. Easiest swap I have ever done but his truck was a early 99 and had the floor clearance. Plan B is to refurbish and build a junk yard auto transmission and drop her it. I'm still on the fence about that WW2. Might be a cheap way to get a few cheap MPG's but I cant really complain. I have been averaging 19.4 MPG and that's by hand; mixed high way and city unloaded.

I ended up getting the dipricol gauges as they match the look of the dash exactly. My plans for tranny rebuilds if needed is a BTS swap, seems to be the most reasonable option for long term, and I keep everything forever. Luckily the dually can be parked all winter, that seems to help a lot, as does keeping the underside protected.
I dont have the option to park my truck but what can ya do, you know. A fully built BTS Transmission is one pretty penny but so long as you dont need a rebuild just a valve body would be sufficient for stock and slightly above stock power levels. I have seen bone stock 7.3 transmissions hold up to a 400hp thrashing for a couple of years before they started to slip...HARD. You can save yourself $4,000-$8,000 if you can get away with a $275 valve body.
