Almost there...
I'm debating using this versus a full-color cover option. I have a few days to decide, but not necessarily a few days to do a brand new full-color cover, at least for the freebie version.
This is meant to be a simple, bright, retraux cover to invoke the right colors while still providing a bold feel and hopefully give it that ol' 80's cyberpunk punch.
I went with Binary over, say, Jigsaw, mostly because I want the RPG to focus on the expanded universe elements of Last Res0rt and not JUST the show. That said, posing her pinup style on the cover is for its own sake.
And, okay, I was in a rush.
I've got the next nine days to change my mind on this cover if I really want to. Feedback wouldn't hurt though...

Waaaait a minute. I'm a big fan of the cyberpunk comic by Rachel Keslensky, so I actually managed to convince my cheap self to purchase the Last Res0rt roleplaying game. As in economically supporting the extraordinary. Now, you're saying there's going to be a free edition?! It's a clever ploy, for sure, and I certainly don't ask for you to change it, but I don't want my spending resolve to wane here. What do I do now? Halp!
The free version is 30 pages (because that's the size limit imposed by the contest I'm developing this for).
The print edition will be at least 48 pages (in order to get the right binding for the books; any smaller and I'd have to use staples, like a comic book).
So, you're getting at least 18 more pages of greyscale awesome (More details! More gameplay potential! MORE ART!) by buying the print version. (By comparison, Volume One only has about 6-7 pages of print-exclusive material. )
The Reason: Because I have to complete a 30-page prototype for the Cyberpunk Revival Project so far ahead of my usual "schedule" (i.e. I work with the cons in mind, so this is at least a few months out -- not impossible for a book, but introducing new stuff at AWA never seems to go well), and they'll be able to get said 30-page pamphlet for free... I've decided to make it available to all the other fans as well. In short, the freebie version is a teaser.
Besides, I need playtesters, preferably before I start selling the print version. It'll make starting up games among your friends easier since you won't have to run out and buy a book for everybody.
More details will be coming out soon. Rest assured, I have a plan!
... also, Inkbunny doesn't allow illustrations of humans, so it's not like I can offer it there. >:|

I just finished reading through (admitedly a bit of a scan read) the free version, and quite a large chunk seems to be missing from the base rules perspective (i.e. things usually found in the base rules) where as there's a large number of species which would be mroe what I expect in the paid version.
The things I think are missing to give a decent understanding as it stands:
More information on checks: I.E. for the locking the door while holidng back the mob, is it a force test to hold them back then a finesse test, or just the finesse test
No real information about combat: I personally love free form styled combat systems without set rules etc. But with no official way to do opposed checks for say mellee, no information on weapons and most importantly, the health system in use, I'm completely stuck for how the combat is supposed to feel in the game.
So yeah... if I were to re-do this as an intro to the game I'd include mroe base info and drop some of the fluffier things (maybe only include rules for Sterling in the base rules?) however as a teaser, it certainly works because I'm curious for the full games ability.
On that note though... a thought occurs, if this is a teaser, will there be a different free version put out at release as the 'basic' rules set? This would be great for me as I RP over skype so obviously my friends can't just glance over my shoulder to look at the book :P
Also, I think the B&W art looks great in contrast with the coloured background very striking

Yeah, I've got work to do. Expect me to go review the rules some more once my summer rush dies down.
Technically, the additional stuff isn't "Fluff" so much as it is that Soul Rules still need some fleshing out, especially as each Spectrum has a slightly different understanding of Soul (and the Star Org have a different set of goals with theirs entirely, but that's another book). My excuse for the 30-page version was I didn't have room, but I can't use that forever.
The free version will be periodically updated to reflect rule changes and any typo corrections needed (so you can give the free version to your friends who're interested in playing), but not much else. I don't want to be constantly trying to update the same book over and over, after all.

Yeah, I realised it wasn't fluff, just was the most definite way of getting that section identified in my head XD
And yeah... the soul thing makes next to no sense as it stands with the only real choice from my point of view being a Sterling or Vampire due to how things fit into the Last Resort game show idea (celeste in general I've gathered from the back story, are rarely criminals, or if they were would be due simply to a misunderstanding between their version of justice and the planet they resides on version)
