A Hyracotherium (Eohippus) blends into the dappled shade of its natural habitat.
Hyracotherium is the ancient ancestor of the modern horse: the one with the paws instead of hooves. Known specimens range around 8" to 12" at the withers.
This guy is 8" at the shoulder, making him LIFE SIZE. I based the pattering loosely on two animals: baby tapirs and chevrotain (mouse deer) which both live in similar habitat and are around same size. (adult tapirs are a LOT bigger)
It's a fairly eye catching pattern when show in open area but disappears really well in dabbled forest floor. (he was photographed at edge of shrubbery)
