This is my obligatory full moon shot. I spent about half an hour in the bitter cold playing with settings. Then it came time to edit, I thought at first I would do a exposure bracket, HDR lots of colors.... nope. This is a single shot, the moon hanging out in the sky on a silent still night. Huge lens atop a huge tripod... and at the end I could not figure out how to get the contours and background clean.... Finally I put a spherical filter over the moon and brought some feathering in along the edges and ended up getting the look I wanted.

Strangely, the moon is behind a stand of trees.... in fact there were a few obscuring the moon.... I am really starting to love these big telephotos.

The first time I looked at the moon through binoculars, it took my breath away, because it FINALLY looked spherical. It always looks like a flat disc. You can see the sphericality in your photo here. I'm especially impressed with the sharp craters on the rightmost edge.
